Finally a diamond question...
9.gif

I am in need of some help. I''d be more than appreciative if all of you would give me your opinion on the following two stones. I thought I had my mind made up, but would love some input.

Both Square Cushion Hearts and Arrows

THIS ONE:

.93ct H VS1

5.41mm X 5.41mm X 3.99mm (GIA says 5.42 X 5.40 X 3.98)
Depth = 73.8% (GIA says 73.7%)
Pavillion Depth = 45.1%
Pavillion Angle = 41.0
Crown Height = 14.2%
Crown Angle = 34.1
Table = 56.7% (GIA says 58%)
Girdle = 1.6%
No Culet
No FL
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Very Good
Thin to Extremely Thick Faceted

OR THIS ONE:

.92ct I VVS2

5.60mm X 5.61mm X 3.89mm (GIA says 5.62 X 5.60 X 3.88)
Depth = 69.5% (GIA says 69.3%)
Pavillion Depth = 43.2%
Pavillion Angle = 40.6
Crown Height = 15.0%
Crown Angle = 35.3
Table = 57.1% (GIA says 58%)
Girdle = 1.8%
No Culet
No FL
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Very Good
Thin To Extremely Thick Faceted

Thank you in advance for any input you''d like to give me. - Michelle

I would choose the first one, but wait a minute - what do you mean by "GIA says"? Who is it certified by right now, who gave you the measurements for this?

If both are GIA, i''d take the first one, as long as it''s a fair-to-good VS.

They are both certified by GIA. The other information is coming from the vendor''s analysis. (I didn''t think that the info was too far off from one another, but thought that I''d include the difference in numbers incase anyone thought they''d matter.)

Is there any particular reason you''d choose the first one? (That happens to be the one I favored.)

Thanks.
Michelle

Could you explain why you would choose number one.

Live long,

Is there additional information I should provide on these two stones? I''m really looking for some input.

Please help.

Is it the norm to have girdle swings from "thin to extremely thick" on cusions? Both stones have that for their girdle.

I was told yes for a Square H&A. On GOG''s website it states that by necessity they do. When cutting they begin with proportions in a round and polish down the sides to make it square. The polishing causes the girdles to be thicker on the sides.

i don''t know much about square cushions but just wanted to ask if the second stone, the I, faces up white and are you color sensitive? I had heard that other shapes don''t mask color as well as and well cut round

just something you might want to check into and consider.

I''m not that color sensitive but would prefer not to go below an H. I was looking at the I color diamond and wondering if the total depth would make a difference in any way or the pavillion depth for that matter.

I would want the girdle to be medium to thick, not thin to extremely thick.

I looked at that too. But I have not seen one yet that wasn''t thin to extremely thick.
