I am looking at two different diamonds and wondered which one you would choose:

.96
G
SI1 (eye clean)
Depth: 60.2
Crown: 33.3
Pavillion: 41.0
Table: 57.3
Culet: 0.8
Polish/ Sym: ex/ex
Fluorescence: faint blue
6.39-6.43 x 3.86mm

OR

.91
G
VS2
Depth: 60.7
Crown: 33.5
Pavillion: 40.9
Table: 56
culet: 0.9
Polish/ Sym: Ex/ Ex
Fluorescence: None
6.27-6.30 x 3.81mm

The .96 is a little less expensive than the .91, but both are in our budget, so price is not a big concern.

You all are the best!

Truthfully, neither. My personal preference is for a crown that's a bit steeper.

I think really shallow crowns like this produce nice bold white flashes, but lack the fire that I prefer.

The .91ct option is better, but I honestly think that you would be happy with either one of those diamonds. There are customers that could have those two diamonds laying side-by-side and not even tell a difference. On paper though, the .91ct is better. Good luck....

Thanks for your input!

I ran these diamonds through the HCA and they both score .9 with Excellent fire. aljdewey, do you think that there will be a lack of fire because of the crown even though the HCA says differently?

I also wanted a diamond as close to the diameter of a 1 carat which is why I was leaning toward the .96.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I don't think that there will be a visible difference as far as size goes. Have you seen and compared loose diamonds of that size in person before?

I have not compared size in person as extensively as I have researched it online. I know that "in person" probably makes a big difference. I read on PS that .2mm shows up to the eye in terms of size meaning that I will see a size difference between a well cut .90 and a well cut 1.0. I have been looking at .96 to close the visual gap.

The .96 scores .9, EX, EX, EX, EX on the HCA. The .91 scores .9 EX, EX, EX, VG on the HCA. Both within the TIC range.

When reading the dimensions, which number is the diameter of the stone (this may be a very stupid question)?
.96pt. 6.39-6.43 x 3.86mm

.91pt. 6.27-6.30 x 3.81mm

Thanks so much for helping me sort it out!

I asked that same question a while ago (spread).

96pt. 6.39-6.43 spread
91pt. 6.27-6.30 spread

Thanks for the help. You guys rock! (or should I say diamond) tee hee
