I’m torn between these two setting. Which one do you think will look better on 0.7x ct round diamond?

Just by looking at all the pictures here on the forum, I'll pick MM Flame
MM's work is way superb than Vatche Royal Crown

I was going to get a MM flame setting as well, but I live in Mass and have to pay tax, plus he doesn't allow local pickup. These are the reasons I pass on MM

I would always choose MM, as I love his work, so that would get my vote.

Hi I attached the pictures to help you decide. The Vatache below.

Same here. I think the knife edge of the Flame band will make the stone 'pop' more.

I''ve never liked the thickness of the MM heads, however the Vatche is more of a cathedral with the shank coming up to the diamond and I don''t really like that either. I suppose I''d prefer the shank of the MM with the head of the Vatche.

I love both settings. If money was no object I'd probably choose the MM. I love the Vatche too though and had considered it at one point as a setting for my round stone.

pearlmans has one in their deals sections for only $350 in WG which might allow you to put a bit more $ towards the diamond if you haven't purchased the center yet. or allow for a lovely diamond wedding band..

HI:

Tough. I like the way the Vatche tapers....but but but.....I''d probably go with the MM; his work appears so very fine....

Both lovely, but I''d go with the MM--his work is amazing.

I love the cathedral aspect of the Vatche, but I think the Flame is very simple, classic and elegant...so my vote is for the Flame

They are both beautiful, and I don''t think you can go wrong with either one. Personally, I am with Skippy on this and I prefer the MM Flame. The artistry is so compelling. But Vatche rings are gorgeous, so maybe you should take other factors into account like the price differences? If they cost the same, then you might want to use the time tested methodology of a coin flip. :-) LOL

I must be in the minority, since I prefer the sweeping lines and cathedral of the Royal Crown.

I think the diamond is the star and you should pick a setting that showcases the diamond.
That said, Vatche Royal Crown lets you see more of the diamond from the sides, and even shows the culet.
Also Vatche will sit pretty close to flush with a wedding band, MM has that little donut that prevents that.

My choice would be Royal Crown.:)

I think I''d pick the MM flame for that size. I wore the Vatche Royal Crown for 5 years and although I did and still do love the design I don''t think it really made my stone pop. I also was never happy with the Vatche prongs...they did not look delicate to me at all and yes the stone was set by Vatche...

Back when I was looking for a wedding band in 2003 I had a difficult time finding one that would sit flush with the RC ER...I finally settled for a very low profile channel set band. It was the only one I found locally (Bay area at the time) that would sit flush...I would think it might be easier to find something now but I''m not sure?

I agree great find!!! You could put money to a big stone if you like?

The Vatche Royal Crown! It''s the setting I was hoping to get but was unable to. Ill be envious of your ring :)

I am unfamiliar with Mark Morrell so I am going to check those out!

price are almost the same. MM is a little more.
At first I loved Vatche RC but now I leaning more toward MM.
Which one do you think will make the stone look bigger?

Since I hate the donuts (no offense to MM, just hate non-flush settings), I''ll have to go with the Vatche. And that previously owned one is calling my name...too bad it isn''t for a princess cut.

I usually like MM over Vatche, but in terms of these two specific settings, I prefer the Vatche. I think the head is much prettier with a more beautiful profile. Also it may sit more flush than the MM.

I think the knife-edge of the MM will make the stone look a bit bigger, but they really are both lovely settings with elegant lines, so you can''t make a bad choice here.

I usually like Mark Morrell better, but in this case, I am torn. I think they are both beautiful. I think the royal crown sets the diamond a little higher, maybe that will make it look a little larger? with a .7 I would not worry about it being high enough to get in the way of daily life. You will also have an easier time finding a WB for it that sits flush.

I like the fluid look of the Mark Morrell, but that is personal taste.

I think you can''t go wrong either way. If she perfers something really low set, go for the Mark Morrell, if she likes a bit more of a dramatic look and wants her wedding set to sit flush, I would lean towards the royal crown

Well, I had been with my gf over 9 years. I think she deserved something special.
I never talked to her about the ering since I want to surprise her. So I don''t know if she likes high or low setting.
Can I exchange the setting if she doesn''t like it?

some places will let you exchange within a certain amount of time. You might think about just getting and inexpensive setting for the diamond to propose with and then go setting shopping together. that way the proposal can still be a surprise but you can be 100% sure she gets the setting she wants.

I like the flame more only because I''ve never been a huge fan when the band gets wider like the first pic. It always reminds me of a bow tie.

Hi sirrtuan,

I think both of the settings are beautiful - but you might want to take your gf''s line of work and lifestyle into account. If she uses her hands often (i.e. - is a doctor, plays a lot of sports) it might be wiser to go with the MM since it is set lower to the finger and won''t get knocked around as much.

At the end of the day - it''s really a personal choice. My vote would be for the Vatche - but I work in an office and don''t exactly do a lot of heavy lifting

Its not just the $100, I wanted to pay him cash and pick it up locally but he didn't accept that, so thats why I pass.
If everything was to work out with MM, I would of gotten him a $100 gift anyways, so it wasn't about money.
Its my decision and I dont need you to WTF my comments...thanks
