4, 6, or 8 main, which would give most sparkle, flash?

You know it really depends on the individual stone. If you want to know which one has the most potential,
@Karl_K and @Garry H (Cut Nut) might be able to say.

The center areas usually give the bigger flashes and the areas under the table outside of the center tend to be more mushy
(and will give smaller twinkles).

I posted these pics recently as to what to look for...green area is mushy (hopefully at least small twinkles). You can see where
you'll get the bigger flashes through the center.

Better stone...as the stone moves, more well-defined facets come into focus. This usually means bigger flashes versus
mushy twinkly flashes (smaller but maybe more? )

I hope you can see the difference. I believe these are both 8 main stones.

Depends on size an how well everything works together.
Some of the nicest I have seen lately have been rotated 8 main. The mains are rotated so they do not go side to side.

How could I argue with Karl???
Can't because I agree.
But I would not rule out any patterns as proportions count too.
Remember a bow ties is exactly the same as a hearts and ARROWS star.
The speed of turning off and on is the BowTie issue.

What do you mean @Karl_K ?

I know of the two different 8 mains where an arrow goes straight through the center, or where they are offset
and split out from the center (causing the 2 triangles of facets). Are you referring to another kind?

A is rotated to B

Ovals with the mains in the A position have a bowtie effect the same as round diamonds with the same proportions:

If you happen to see one please post, I would like to see what it looks like.

Have we asked you for your specs before, in case we run across one that we think looks good? Budget would be helpful too.

Table and depth % is usually the only available data Tyty.
If you can get crown and pavilion angle you can use the Ideal-scope collage I put together.
PS it also shows there are more than one proportion set that avoid bow ties (type 1 and type 2).

Unfortunately, I can not get angles. I have to go by looks:(sad...and I've looked at a lot! :loopy:

A well-cut oval is a rare sight!

Yup..ASET is it

Yes, it's a painful process to buy, Aset it, decide whether it's "good enough," and send it back if not, start over!

A large qty of better fancies actually had ASET photos done by the Indian manufacturers of naturals.
But when USA and other nations wholesalers buy the stones they rarely make the photos available.
But they have access to them.
If more of you ask the pathways become greased.

@autumngems Did you see what Garry posted? If you find a stone you like, ask for an Aset image. They may* have one.
