Hello everyone,
I have been doing alot of research lately as i plan to propose at the beginning of march. I would like some advice as to the following two diamonds on what you would recommend. #1 is from a jeweler that i know, good discount, lifetime appraisals, warranty, etc. #2 is from a family friend overseas. I want a stone that will sparkle and shine as much as possible. Any and all help and feedback is greatly appreciated.

#1 ranks 2.8 Vg/Vg/Vg/Vg with the comment of "Worth buying if the price is right" on the HCA. While it's probably a very sparkly diamond, it's over priced. For the same money, you can buy a Super Ideal Hearts and Arrows diamond with a better HCA score. Also, the diameter will be .2mm larger. Doesn't sound like much, but most definitely is a visible difference. With this diamond, you'll be paying for carat weight you don't see. CUT quality factors into the price of a diamond, just like color and clarity. This diamond is over priced for the level of the cut quality. You might also find a comparable diamond for less money, have the same sparkle factor you've already seen, and pay a fair price in relation to the quality of the make.

The specs you gave for #2 look good, but you need more info to make an informed buying decision. Beyond that, I can't comment. You also have to figure the cost of shipping into the overall cost of #2. You might check on that, if you haven't already.

Or I think i may have found what i may get.

AGS Cert.
Round
1.225 cts
AGS 000 Ideal Cut - Hearts and Arrows
H color
VS1 clarity
Table: 56%
Crown: 34.7 degrees or 15.4%
Pavillion 40.7 degrees or 42.7%
Depth: 62.4%
Cutlet: pointed
Flourescence: negligible
diamond alone: waiting for final price but appx $7200

I think that third is the way to go. I wouldn't buy from overseas just purely because of the hassle if you need to return/exchange/upgrade it--even if it's a family friend.

This diamond scores well. Has great potential to be a real sparkler. 1.2, TIC, Ex/Ex/Ex/Vg. Price is in line as well.

Just a tad deep on the cut. The diameter may be a smidge smaller than a similar diamond that is cut with less depth. Ideal diameter would be around 6.95mm. But, overall, should be a good performer that is well priced.

I'm sorry, my bad, the depth for the 3rd diamond is 60.3, not what i had it as. any other advice on this one?

WOW!! The change in depth really impacted the score on the HCA!!
