Hi, I''m looking at two stones. I''ll cut to the chase with details.
STONE 1
AGSL Certified (inscribed)
1.258C
6.93 x 6.96 x 4.26
Color E
Clarity SI1 (eye clean)
Table 56%
Depth: 61.3%
Crown: 34.5 degrees
Paviliion: 40.8 degrees
Girdle: 1.6% to 4.3%; thin to sl-thk; faceted
Culet: .3%
Cut: Ideal
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Flourescence: negligible
STONE 2
AGSL Certified (inscribed)
1.08 C
6.55 x 6.58 x 4.01
Color F
Clarity VS2
Table 57%
Depth: 61.2%
Crown: 34%
Pavillion: 40.7%
Girdle: 1.5% to 2%; med to sl-thk; faceted
Culet: .3%
Cut: Ideal
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Flourescence: Faint Blue
There is a third stone. It is a 1.08 with equally good numbers. I''ve run them all through the HCA and gotten scores of .9-1.3 on all of them. The price difference between the 1.06 and the 1.258 is only about $400 with the 1.08 falling in the middle. My gut tells me that the extra size is probably worth the decrease in clarity, plus I get a little bump on the color. But that 4.3% maximum girdle thickness bothers me somewhat. I''m an engineer and thus a numbers person can you tell?
So, would folks hesitate to go for the larger stone in an SI1, or would you stick with the better clarity stone to save some scratch? I''ve heard arguments that I would be hard pressed to see an actual size difference in those stones. I''m considering a 6 prong platinum solitaire setting, so this should enhance to aparrent size somewhat.
The 1.08 stone which I mentioned but failed to provide stats on (trust me, it''s equivalent on paper) has a uniform thin girdle and is about a tenth of a millimeter larger in diameter than the 1.06 carat stone.
I really would be interested in some opinions.
Many thanks in advance.
