I have a pretty good hookup with a jeweler who deals in Indian diamonds, all GIA certified. Anyways, I''m going with a 1.25ct stone, but to get it around $7000, I have to sacrifice one aspect of the stone. They''re all excellent cuts. But should I upgrade to an F color with a pretty clean S1 cut, or a G color with a VS2? This is a round brilliant stone. Thanks!

Do you have any more info on the cuts?
Also, are they certified? Like I''d be happy to take an SI1 from GIA, but would probably take the VS2 if it was only an EGL

What are your priorities? Are you more sensitive to color or inclusion...?

Yeah its GIA certified. I just want it to have the most fire/sparkle it can. And they are all GIA Excellent graded cuts. But I don''t have specific table data or anything like that.

More data would be helpful. Looking at the stones would also be helpful. If you are not sensitive to color or do not prefer a higher color (the F) there is no reason to sacrifice clarity for color, however. If absolutely all things about cut were equal and you liked a G color as well as an F, I would go for the higher (i.e. the VS) clarity! (I can't believe I am typing these words! I, myself, always go for color. But I am very sensitive to color and it matters to me! You want fire and sparkle.)

Ditto? If you could post all the proportions for each here and info from the reports, depth, table angles and so on then we can help you decide which are the best cut.

Excellent cut grade doesn't necessarily mean that it will perform well.
The cutters know how to bend the rules to cut stones that "on paper" are top cut grades, but in reality they've been cut to maximise weight and profit - beauty is well down the list of priorities for most cutters.

Only this morning, I saw a GIA "good" cut that is likely to make most GIA "Ex" cuts look poor in comparison. Sure, this particular GIA "good" cut faces-up slightly small, but the proportions are excellent for a super-fiery diamond. It's all about how the angles and facets work in harmony.
You could fit a racing car engine to a motorbike and the basic "on paper" stats would look amazing. However, when examined in fine detail, the real-life motorbike would be hideous and poor performing because of the oversize engine and poor stability. D'ya see what I mean.....

Frankly, the cut grade opinion of most labs and retailers counts for nothing. Look at the details of the stone's measurements to really see how good it is.

Good points on cut aside, as to your question and assuming both are of equal cut, if the F is totally eyeclean, or eyeclean to your liking, might as well go for that one.
