Hi Everyone, i am very new to the world of diamonds so please bear with my unprofessional questions. I am in the midst of deciding between 2 diamonds and I am getting really confused the more I learnt about the stones.

The first diamond- 1.73 carat F colour VS 2 GIA -Triple excellent with H& A additional inscription. Dimensions: Table -56%, Depth - 62.5%, crown angle 35.5, pavilion angle 41, HCA score -4.4

The second diamond- 1.53 carat E colour VS1 GIA- triple excellent. Dimensions: Table - 57%, Depth 61.3%, Crown angle 34.5, Pavilion angle 40.8, HCA score - 1.3.

The price of the stones are very similar. Which is a better stone? Which shd I buy? Why is the first stone a H & A quality but poor score on the HCA.? Frankly, I am very keen to take the first option as the stone is much bigger.

Thanks very much in advance for your advice!

Welcome!

The first diamond is what we call a steep deep. This basically means the crown and pavilion angles are too steep and deep to work well together. This can have a negative effect on the diamond by making it leak light, and you may notice darkness when you look at it. It may show an arrow pattern but it probably won't be the best performer. If you really want to pursue this stone, then ask the seller for an Idealscope image, that will show and prove any light leakage.

The second stone looks good, so that is the one I would recommend you concentrate on. Or if you would like, let us know your budget and what you are looking for with colour, clarity and carat and we might be able to suggest some diamonds.

Thanks very much for your comments Lorelei, I will try to ask for an idealscope picture for the diamond. I have a 20K budget for the diamond, will really appreciate if you can recommend. I am looking at E or F color stones about 1.5 to 1.8 C.

You are most welcome!

Here are some diamonds I found for you to look at - I included some SI clarity as these can be a great choice if verified eyeclean by a trusted vendor, who understands your expectations - also a couple of G colour. I also don't know if you have any flexibility on the budget, but some are a little over the 20 k, but I thought I would add them anyway.
