My vote is for the 1st choice. It has classic lines and should have more options for a wedding band.

Congratulations!

Wow. I actually like both of them. I love the surprise diamond on the first one, but I love the extra bling on the second one. I guess if I had to choose... I say the first one. Good luck with your purchase!!!

With that size stone I would say the first one. IMO settings like the second one look best with bigger stones (I think smaller stones sometimes get lost...), while solitaires let the diamond shine regardless of size.

I love the soliataire with the surprise diamonds! I am not a fan of yellow gold but if that what she loves go for it! BTW, that stone is GORGEOUS!!

Well both are beautiful, I would try to find out if she wants diamond side stones or classic setting, both are beautiful. The first is for sure classic!!! Beautiful stone, thanks for posting it!

They''re both pretty! Depends on which one she would seem to prefer! =) Is her jewelry style more simple or decorated, does she tend to dress up more or like to be more casual? If she seems more simple and casual, go for the first one. (Not to say the first one can''t be dressy!)

Also, I''m 23 as well and did she say she liked yellow gold? I think most ppl my age prefer the white gold/ platinum color..

Thanks for the all the replies! I can't find out which she would prefer because I'm sure she's already getting a bit suspicious. I talked to James from WF on the phone today for 20min and had to stall hardcore to come out with who I was talking to. She was very suspicious, and I had to swear on my mother's grave that I was talking to my dad about my sister moving to Ohio, haha, phew (sorry mom!).

My dad said that he thinks the solitaire setting is best, a classic look that will never go out of style. Also, the more stones you put on a ring the more it starts to look like a cocktail ring, and lose that engagement-flash. And like you said before, the other stones may detract from this beautiful stone - and we don't want that!

So it's all but decided - that 'surprise' solitaire with the WF diamond. Anyone ever ordered from Jamesallen before? I know they are reputable, but can I just order a setting without a diamond?

Also - she has really small fingers, maybe even a ring size 3.5-4, shoudl I get a size 6 ring, size it down when I get it (do I get to keep that extra gold? Where does it go?!) since its the same price? I'm going to order the loose diamond and setting seperate, then what?

My plan is to have them both appraised seperately, then insured, then have a local jeweler my mom knows set the stone. Is that the best course to go? How do I go about the appraisel and insurance, any tips?

Thanks!

PS. We've been dating 3 years and a couple months now, just graduated (I'm 22, shes 23), and I'm working for a year then going back to school (Dental school!). Once I graduate again and start practicing dentistry I think I'll be able to afford a bigger upgrade - but on my wage now this is a good size stone, and she has such tiny hands :)

** She is a staunch yellow-gold wearer, it has been discussed alot (because I prefer white gold - haha!) I know after buying her a silver watch and since buying her 2 pieces of yellow gold jewelry which she prefers

I know it sounds like a good idea in theory because you are "getting more gold", but it isn''t. And it''s hard to size down a ring more than a size or so without compromising the integrity of the stone. If you think she''s a 4, go with the 4!!!
