Which setting for 3.5+ AVR?

I know it's time those diamonds were in settings! Isn't that tiresome?! I got sidetracked by another project but it's a very happy one. And the AVR will be set within the next few months.

A jewelry project or something like a baby?

Oh no, no more babies for me It's a Van Craeynest project ! I'll give more detail once I've fed my two boys their dinner...

Yeah, I have a few skinny bands from LM, and all go great with this Tacori setting!!

If I choose the Vatche U-113, I was going to get 4-5tcw Eternity band to wear with....

Don't know which combination is better now

Hi Wintotty!

I have a 3.40 L AVR and looked at the Tacori setting you have listed as your choice #2, just a couple of weeks ago. I expected to like it but I actually loved it! In the picture it looks as though the stone is set super high but it really doesn't look that way irl. Marie said it would be about 3500 for my stone in platinum.

There's a thread somewhere with pictures of an AVR in this setting... I'll see if I can find it.

I really liked this setting and no, I didn't think it was too light. I've had a lot of time to think about it and I will either get my AVR set in this setting or something "similar" to Dreamer D's.

You should ask Marie to send you the Tacori sample so you can see it in person.

I can go to the local jeweler and take a look at Tacori

I'm going to search what kind of setting Dreamer D' has!

If you had a LM setting you won't be happy with any of the other options. Gabriel settings are very delicate and sparkly and I really liked the one I tried on....WAY better than the Tacori 2620 and the Tiffany Legacy. But they are not hand made. Perhaps you can try SingleStone or JBEG for a setting because they an upgrade from "stock" type settings. BK may be an option but I'm not familiar with how those settings are made.

I know! I had one of the best (IMHO) already, so I have to try not to compare!
GOG sent me some pictures of the Tacori 2620 with bigger center stone (like 2.5), because I wasn't sure how it looks with bigger stones. It looks lovely, but it seems like that little halo will take away the beauty of AVR/the size of AVR will not look good with the Tacori 2620...I mean not what I'm looking for I guess. JBEG seems like they aren't making the setting as of now, also I really want to do the setting through GOG (everything done under one roof you know?), so both of them are not going to work....

No, I don't have AVR yet..... Jon is going to cut it for me when I'm ready.

So I've never seen Gabriel & Co rings, I don't know how their quality is......since you've seen then in person, could I ask how do they compare? I like the weight of the platinum, so I want to feel the weight when I wear the ER. I don't want the rings that are feather light. Are they delicate? I'm not going to compare it to the custom made rings like LM, VC, or SK....but do you think Gabriel & Co rings are as good as Tacori? I do like the pricing and design, but I'm a little worried because a lot of times what you get is what you pay, you know?

Just ask Jon how they compare to Tacori in quality. The Amavida seemed really well made to me but I don't have ANY experience in the quality of settings. I don't know what Amavida's relationship is to Gabriel & Co. They put "Gabriel & Co." inside the shank when you view the Amavida online. Didn't notice that when I tried it on in the store, but it was in the case with all the Gabriel & Co. settings. I'm sure they will quote you on the weight of the platinum in the ring and you could compare that with the Tacori. But I"m sure Jon can tell you how their quality compares.

I had a 2.10 radiant set in a custom platinum split shank but after trying on some more delicate styles I prefer something less bulky, although it was really nice. I LOVE the really thin triple paved shanks on Leon M.'s site. That is why I liked the knife edge paved shank on that Amavida and the Tacori I posted. But the knife edge gives the same look and it was fine for me. I prefer my $$$ to go into a larger stone. (Ha! My radiant was an EGL (International...UGH!) F color and looked very white ...once in while i could see a little tint and the GIA gemologist said it was more likely an H/I, but the make was really nice. Brilliant cut not crushed ice. It was all i could afford at the time and I'm a size ho...LOL. Got lots of compliments on my ring from strangers and friends who had big diamonds.

I think those are very pretty and artsy, but with the possible exception of the 2nd or 3rd one, I just don't see them being ideal for a large AVR.

I don't think I'd like a large eternity with MRB's with an AVR solitaire, either. I really think your idea of an antique style setting or even the Vatche U-113 with Leon bands or an AVR band would be most complementary. But you know, that is just my opinion...doesn't make it right or wrong for you!

My ring size is 5.5, I wish it was smaller but it is not LOL. As for the halo, the Bev K Halo is the only one I will consider because of the size and the style of the stone......but not sure how big it may look on my finger. I sure don't want it to look like a cocktail ring.

As for the Vatche U-113, that's the quote I got from GOG and it is expensive because of the size of the center stone. I'm surprised also that it is about $700 more than smaller stones. Anyway it still is my fav setting for now.

I had to chime in on this setting. It IS a subtle halo, BUT ONLY WITH A SMALLER STONE. I had this setting ordered as a contender for my (original) 2 ct stone (8.0 mm) and it was the gaudiest thing you have ever seen. The 1.5 ct stone in the showcase didn't even look like that same ring, as I preferred the smaller stone much more. The delicacy was just lost with anything over a 1.5-1.7 ct stone.

Everything is to scale, so to place such a large stone in it would look terrible, trust me... Sorry to put a downer on things, but it looked really bad with the 2 carat -- I can only imagine how ridiculous it would look in a 3.5 ct. I'd go with SK or another antique setting...

I went to the jeweler who carries A.Jaffe today, and checked out some rings I was interested in..

Here's the flower petal ring I was most interested in....this ring has 1ct CZ in it, not sure how it'll look with 3.5ct in it. But I also inquired if they can make the bottom shank part (petal) in rose gold.....and how much the ring will cost with the modification

Win...question for you. Which J AVR did you look at? I think both I see there now are SI stones. How clean was the one you looked at? I really, really prefer VS, but I don't want to overlook a good stone that has minimal inclusions. Did you by chance take any pictures?

I think the flower petal ring looks beautiful with a smaller stone, but I am just not seeing it with a 3.5 ct.

But I know you said on another thread that you have spoken with VC, and I think that is the best idea!

Yeah, I don't like the thick petal look of the ring......I like to have the petal detail to hold the diamond, but not visible from the top.....which is what I asked VC about, if he can create such a thing.

Anyways, I don't remember the spec of the J AVR I saw....it was over 2crt...I attached some pics but really not great pics....sorry. But John said this particular one is cut differently, at the time (in March) they made some modification on AVR so the one I saw is older version. It seems like John tweeked the design recently again for better?

Oh, thank you SO much! That stone looks beautiful and I don't see that it looks more tinted than the I color one I saw, at least in the pictures. That gives me some hope that I might be able to handle a J, too! I will have to ask him about the cut differences. I think they are all ideal cut but I do think you are right about some tweaks. I think that size looks good for me, too!

Well, I recognize the Tacori, Vatche, and BK rings in her post, but this ring is the 1 that is unidentified. It could be an antique setting. You can look on AntiqueEngagementRings.com site and see if it is there. But I would have it custom made if it is there because I don't think their quality looks all that great.
