Which pair of diamonds for stud earrings

Hi Everyone,

I found two pair of diamonds for stud earrings.

First pair is Clarity VVS2 with Color I. One of these diamonds has a pinpoint and a cloud the other diamond has a cloud.

Second pair is Clarity VS2 with Color G. One of these diamonds has a cloud and crystal the other diamond has a cloud.

Also, is a Star Facet of 55% too high?

Thank you all in advance for your help with my decision on a pair of diamonds.

I'd go for color over clarity.

But I personally would get more size and drop to I Si1 for the pair.

I need to stay around a .66 caret total weight for the pair because I will wear them 24/7. Anything larger will get in the way.

Also, which flaw is less desirable, a pinpoint or a crystal?

Also, one of the diamonds received an HCA score of 2.4 Very Good. Is this ok or does the HCA score need to be within TIC range under 2.0 Excellent?

Thanks everyone for assisting me with this decision!

If you can get an idealscope image to confirm performance 2.4 is okay. If you can't... post the numbers for someone like Yssie can she can tell you if it's okay or not. I'm not one of the folks that specialize in that.

As for clarity. Either one is okay as long as the diamonds are eyeclean.

Can anyone give advice on if either pair is really good?

YSSIE??? You around?

My first thought - 24/7 means these little guys are going to get filthy, fast. So good cut is that much more important, I'm glad you've chosen to make it a priority!

Either of those pairs would work, and from the numbers you've posted I don't lean strongly toward one pair over the other. I prefer the first pair for a couple of reasons - the pav and LGF match in particular: GIA rounds LGF to 5% and 82% can look very different from 73%, and without more information or pictures we can't judge how these stones actually look... It's a nitpick, but you're looking at a very nicely-matched pair of pairs so nitpicking is really all that's left.

Here's an illustration of LGF from an old thread here on PS for reference:

Post the report numbers (I assume they're all GIA based on the numbers?) and prices, and where did you find them?

Another option is to look for shallower proportions (shallower pavilion paired with larger table and shallower crown). These sorts of stones aren't ideal in rings because they tend to suffer from over-obstruction when you're leaning over them to admire, but no-one's going to be leaning over your ears ::) Advantages: larger spread for the weight, more bright white light return, skin oils & grease have less impact on light return. Disadvantages: unlikely to be H&A or included in a branded line, can be difficult to find a matched pair.

Thank you Yssie. And I hope you don't mind. And I appreciate the good humor. I know what my strengths are. And what you just did, I can't do. At all.

I can link to it. But that's where my expertise ends. You are the numbers guru. And with MANY settings you exceed my level of detail and attention.

We all do what we can. If you ever need me, you can page me too.

Yssie, thank you so much for sharing your expertise with all of the numbers associated with these diamonds.

Gypsy, thank you for following up with my questions and making sure that they were answered.

You both have been a big help to me!

Yssie and Gypsy, you make a great team!

My pleasure. Enjoy your gorgeous earrings!
