do you get to see and compare both of them? Is this for a ring?

yes, it''s for a ring.

Hi fishy, do you have the measurements (diameter and depth) of your first diamond?

that''s all i have

It sounds like you are trying to get a colorless diamond. Forgive me if you have already said this somewhere else, but, have you been out to physically look at some to get an idea of what a D looks like? A well cut nearly colorless (and by that I mean something E,F,G,H) diamond will face up colorless and save you a TON of money and get you MUCH LARGER. That said, I realize some people in different locations want different things for different reasons, but really I think you should take your time and look a round some more.

Also, depth is something that can greatly affect the light return. What is the depth of the second rock? Clarity is another area you could change and still have an eye clean diamond. The vs1 is a little overkill, in my opinion. You may be able to find an si1 or ii that is eye clean. Can you speak with the person you are buying from to eye the diamonds for you?

What is their return policy? What is their upgrade policy?

I think the depth of the second rock is 62% by my reckoning, the crown and pavillion angles are more telling for light return than depth generally. It may be best to get an independant appraisal on the one you like best to make sure your clarity and colour in particular check out, especially if a set in stone D colour matters to you. You probably know you can drop both colour and clarity and still have a clean and white diamond, but I guess you have your reasons for wanting this combo of D and VVS/ VS? Does your vendor have any further cut info available such as an Idealscope Image for either of these diamonds, or a Sarin report for more detailed info on the numbers for the second diamond? Crown and pavillion percents aren't as accurate as angles, so these are preferable and a Sarin will provide them. By the looks of things either diamond might be a nice make of cut, are these with a jeweller or online vendor?

Agree with Lorelei. On depth for #2, as she implied, I just applied several, and most turn out OK, regardless. Both should be good, with the second probably more "traditional" for good looks...so that may be safer.
