I''m in the process of buying an e-ring and plan to pop the question in a few weeks. Am trying to choose between two princess cut stones and would appreciate your advice. My criteria are that the stones must be big, well cut and eye clean and ofcourse within my budget (~5000 including setting). Which of these 2 stones would you choose

Diamond Information: 1.24-Carat Princess Diamond
Clarity: SI1
Color: I
Depth/Table: 71.8/69
Polish: EX
Symmetry: G
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 5.89 x 5.82 x 4.18 mm
Price:$4,680

or

Diamond Information: 1.15-Carat Princess Diamond
Clarity: SI2
Color:H
Depth/Table: 71.3/70
Polish: VG
Symmetry: VG
Fluorescence: Faint
Measurements: 5.93 x 5.68 x 4.05 mm
Price:$3,758

if well cut is a main criterion, i would want to see them. if you have, then you are in a better place to judge then us.
who graded them?

Thanks for your reply belle,

They are both GIA certified. And they are both eye clean.
Am not in a position to see them since they are both from different online vendors

idealscope images?
sarin?

any other info would be great. otherwise, have them both sent to an independant appraiser and get a good look at them to decide.

Called the vendors and they unfortunately dont do sarin reports or have dealscope images. Is there info in the GIA report to see if the cut is good (for eg from the table and the depth %)?

the depth and table look promising...but they are not a sole indicator of cut quality. the ''good'' symmetry on the first one would leave doubts in itself.
i know you want answer but i couldn''t possibly make a good recommendation without more information.

Ditto. I saw the "good " symmetry on the first one and that raised a bit of a red flag. Wish you could get a sarin or an IS image.

Thanks for the info Belle and Kaleigh. This forum rocks!!!

I will try and squeeze some more info out from the vendors, but I suppose # 1 is out for the time being atleast.

I would probably prefer the second one, but I am no expert.

I'd chose #2 so that I could have a nicer than plain setting. #1 only leaves you about 320 for a setting.
