Hi! I'm finally at the point of purchase, and I have narrowed it down to a 1.8 ct G SI1 oval, or a 1.7 ct H VS2 pear. I have obtained ASET images which I understand can be hard to interpret with fancy cuts. The seller believes that te par has better light return. Any thoughts on these?
Thank you all so much! Getting excited now! Now just have to figure out how to set it :)

Links to the stones?

Hmm, from looking at the asets I would have thought the oval had a tad better light return but when you see the real image it's
not as good as I thought it would be.

I'm going with the pear. It looks very pretty in the real image. Pear asets never look that great.

How do you plan on setting either of them? Are you going custom?

Edit - I'm not being biased because I wear a pear...I adore ovals too!

Hi! Thanks for your input! I went with the pear :) I'm going to get a custom- just not sure what- maybe side trapezoids/ half moons/ tapered baguettes. I love the little pointy prongs that LM uses. Any suggestions would be welcomed! I was thinking of doing a partial custom with JA, and adapting their half moon/ trap setting. So excited!

I'm not a big fan of pears with half moons because I think the moons hide the shape of the pear (which is one thing that makes them
so lovely).

Also not that much of a fan of traps because the side of the trap is straight and the side of the pear is angled so I dont feel they
go well together.

I like pears with pear sides but then sometimes that's a little too much pear. So that pretty much leaves baguettes.

This ring isnt for me though...what do you like? Do you have any pictures or links you can post?

Here's some setting ideas for pears, just found these through Google so can't give you much info about where they're from but will hopefully give you some ideas if you're going custom :)

I found a few beautiful examples online. I'm not exactly sure on the 'etiquette' of posting someone else's ring, so apologies if it's not the done thing to 'borrow'. I love the thicker halo's, and the classic 3 stone's, including the HW pear with tapered baguettes. I also love the little pointy claws (name?). I am looking for something that I can wear every day. I'm a veterinarian so it needs to be somewhat sturdy, and low set. Any suggestions on height?

Dont bezel it, is my only suggestion.

I had a pear. and though the bezel made the ring quite stunning, it did not at all help with the light return. I ended up selling it.p6280121.jpg

Instead of buying a ring for your job, but what you love, then buy a necklace ring holder to put it on when your job gets a bit labor intensive. Wearing any ring when you're working a lot with your hands can be a bad idea, particularly one as pointy as a pear.

When I was shopping for pears, these were my favorite settings.

I thought the pear ASET is very pretty; it has a lot of teeny tiny red sprinkled amongst the green, which will give it a lot of pinpoint sparkle. I agree about NOT bezeling a fancy cut as they look best with open settings.

Thank you for all the creative input guys! The diamond should be with me in the next few days, then the fun starts :) I'm so bloody indecisive. I'm hoping when I see the stone the mist will clear and I'll know what I want. Have any if you guys had experience working with JA on a custom project? Any thoughts? Also- incase they can't create what I (eventually decide) I am looking for, does anyone know of anyone in the Dallas/Fort Worth area who has their own bench?
Final question- side stones/ halo. What do you guys think would be the largest diamonds (rounds for the halo, pears/ tapered baguettes/ half moons) that I could pull off without detracting from the center stone? I have a large finger at 8.5 I think... Incase that's relevant :)

Oh and yennyfires ring us beautiful! As if the WF pear cluster/ halo

What would you think of a haloed three stone??

You seem to like both halos and side stones, if its not too blingy for you, sense you're concerned about finger coverage, would you consider doing pear sides with halos? I think that would be great! I'll be back with photos.

Another idea if you're trying to maximize the bling and finger coverage would be a double halo....if you're that kinda gal

This victor canera is lovely.

That is stunning! Does anyone know, will Victor setting when he is not providing the center stone? Also- I wonder what I would be looking at cost wise. It's definately a contender. I'm just not sure if it's a little too fancy for me. I told you- I'm a PIA.

Haha no not a PITA, its good to be asking yourself these questions now before you drop money on a setting you won't use!

Are you having them send you the pear in a temp setting? I like its an extra 180, but it really helps to wear your stone as a soli for a little while to see really how you feel. I always thought it helped me decide on my final setting.

That VC is going to be big bucks! There are other people that could make it for cheaper, bit I wouldn't be supposed if that setting alone is 8k.

To answer your question, yes. He will set outside stones

Ouch! I'd have to sell a limb. I will investigate a temp setting. I hadn't even thought of that :) thank you!

Its a real setting, just a cheap one! Lol. It's their cheapest setting soli

So I think I have found a setting that fits my personality (as silly as it sounds, I've been struggling with what is "me" - throughout this process I have created many road blocks for my self :)). It is from JA and consists of a cabled band, with a halo. I have decided to go with 0.015 ct stones on the halo. I am a little perplexed by the types of pave settings available. I have looked at the u pave but I can't find a halo that shows the u pave style with 0.015's. I also like the look of the scalloped edge. In both cases the center stone will be prong set. The attached ring shows the "off the shelf" with 0.005s I believe. I really want a halo that faces up with minimal metal showing- I think that's why I'm drawn to the scalloped edge. Any suggestions would be appreciated :shifty:

So- these are examples of the pave style I like- maybe you guys could help me by letting me know what type of pave they are? That would really help I think. Thanks:)
