Hi everyone, I''m new to this forum and I want to ask a question.
I''m looking at a couple of princess cut diamonds and want to see what you people think.

(1) 1.00ct princess cut diamond
E color
VS2 clarity
excellent cut
5.52*5.30*3.96mm

(2) 1.01ct princess cut diamond
F color
VS2 clarity
very good cut
5.39*5.25*4.04mm

Both are beautiful diamonds, but I''m just not sure which one I should buy.
Which one would you buy? Prices are almost the same.
Would like to see your opinions on this.

Thank you.

There just isn't nearly enough information. Pictures or even better an ASET image of each stone and we could help you. But cut is what will really make the diamond sparkle.

Welcome to Pricescope,

Have you seen either of these in person?

Hello.

I have seen them in person.
They both look nice, but the second stone is a bit more square than the first one.
The first stone looks a bit brighter though.
What are the specific things that I should look for when you compare two diamonds?

Both are graded by 'gemscan'. Is it something reliable and I can trust?

They want $8000 CDN with platinum setting, is it a good deal?

Thank you for your inputs.

I know you can often find diamonds in Canada have a Gemscan report, however opinions here seem to vary concerning accuracy, you could try a search for Gemscan as there are some threads in the archives. But what you could do is to make the sale final on the diamond of your choice checking out with an independant appraiser, ask the seller if he would be agreeable to this and if so get it in writing.

As to which one to buy, here on PS we often concentrate on cut quality as that is what gives a diamond its beauty, however it isn't really possible for us to really judge a diamond without photos and ASET as Neat suggests. If you could post the proportions of each, that would give us a ' wire framework' but not really tell us all that much unfortunately...

As to what to look for, it can be best to check the diamonds out away from the store lights to see how they will look when being worn. You need to like what you see and know what you are looking for and this can be easier if you compare as many diamonds as possible. Diamonds won't sparkle all the time, but you need to like what you see in most lighting conditions, the stone should ' speak' to you! Also if you have time to wait for shipping and don't mind investing $ 50 USD, you can buy an ASET scope. This will help you judge the cut quality of any fancy shape diamond.

This chart will help you interpret the results.

If you wanted to broaden your options if you are unsure of either of these, and this is just a suggestion - you could maybe consider lowering the colour to F or G perhaps if you were to consider GIA or AGS graded diamonds. But as to these in a practical sense of how to choose if you like either of these, check them out as carefully as you can in more everyday lighting, and make the sale final on an independant appraisal to make sure the colour and clarity check out.
