I''m trying to choose between these two Canadian rounds for the center on a "halo" setting. My goal was to find a .75 carat round G color, ideal cut SI1.

Since I am aiming for a G color, I was wondering if there is a noticeable difference (to the untrained eye) between G and H. Also, since my diamond is relatively small, is it worth it to drop down from Super Ideal to Ideal and get a slightly larger carat weight? I was surprised when I went to a store this weekend how much larger a "Super Ideal" cut looks compared to a good cut, but I wasn''t able to compare "Super Ideal" to "Ideal" in .75 carat. I can spend about $3,800 - $4,000 max on the diamond alone.

Anyway, let me know what you think...

They both look very promising, can you post the crown and pavilion angles please?

Unfortunately that''s all the info listed on the site...

Can you post the report numbers at least?

Unfortunately I don''t have those. I am trying to purchase a Canadian diamond for the center, and I am particularly interested in a mount on Brilliant Earth (www.brilliantearth.com). Their website doesn''t have a ton of information on their diamonds, although they do provide the certificates in advance if you like -- I just don''t have the info. readily available.

Maybe I should be asking if someone can recommend a jeweler that works with Canadian diamonds that could produce a "Halo" setting with sidestones...

You should ask them for the crown and pavilion angles for both stones first to make sure they are a nice cut.

If you go with the AGS stone, assuming the report is a DQD instead of a DQR, and it grades the cut as AGS0, you should have nothing to worry about. GIA stones we are less sure about their cut grading which is why we ask for the dimensions.

Indeed, we really need the angles in order to help you further.

I''ve seen Canadian diamonds in Whiteflash''s listings before and they also have halo settings available. I''ve not purchased from WF personally, but oodles of members here have and were quite happy.

I called WhiteFlash and they said they no longer carry Canadian diamonds "because they are becoming harder to find"...

Still waiting to hear back on those other specs requested above...

Thats a shame, that was a good suggestion of GG''s. Well let us know when you get the other info.

Ok, I got the certificates finally...

I prefer #1 assuming I am reading the crown and pavilion angle correctly on the second one. It's a bit hard to read.

Another vendor to check is Good Old Gold, I believe they carry Canadian diamonds regularly...but that first one should be beautiful so you might not need to!

I would go with the AGS stone since it is rated AGS0, the GIA stone is a little iffy, unless you have IS for both of them for comparison.

That GOG stone could be very nice, but I would ask for an IS picture to confirm and/or I would ask them to have Jon look at it and tell you what he thinks. He is very honest and will only back stones that he thinks are nice.

This could be an excellent stone.
