Princess cuts: Which would you choose? Cuts are comparable. What''s the popular opinion concerning color and clarity...and price?

1.2 ct H VS1 $4700
GIA cert
Measurements 5.95-5.81-4.14
Depth 71.3
Table 67
Girdle m-stk
Culet None
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Very Good
Fluorescence None

OR

1.16ct E SI1 $5200
GIA cert
Measurements 5.87*5.84*4.03
Depth 69 (Sarin 68.7)
Table 68 (Sarin 69.2)
Girdle m (Sarin 2.1%)
Culet None
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Very Good
Fluorescence None
Pavilion Angles (Sarin 61.2 58.8 63.1)
Crown Angles (Sarin 36.7 36.5 37.1)
Crown Height (sarin 9.1%)

The SI1 plot shows some inclusions in the table (not central though); however, most inclusions are in the periphery.

OK...as if that weren''t enough. What do you think about IceStore.com?

Hope that wasn''t too overwhelming.
Your help is much appreciated.

The E/SI 1 seems to be pretty well cut, but what about the H? No Sarin on that one?

That said, unless the H has marvelous #s, I would go with the E, assuming it's eye clean in face up position.

You shouldn't be able to see a difference between VS 1 and SI 1, but there's an obvious difference between E and H.

Agreed with Giangi, but not always nuts about a SI1, unless it's real clean ESPECIALLY eye clean, like nothing in the center of the stone...only stuff on the sides.

They both scaore well on the AGA chart as 1Bs I believe

Here's an E, VS2 in 1.02cts, with similar %s as the first stone for $82 more than that one.

Another 1.08ct F, VS2 for $4,736

And a 1.01ct F, VS1 for $4,495

Consider these are pre-discount prices, as PriceScope people get a discount...

Good luck!

Thanks giangi.

I have the Sarin coming on the H VS1 probably by tomorrow.

I'll have to see them both up close to decide probably.

Referring to the 1.16ct - Is there any concern with the depth being so close to the table? The Sarin indicates that the table is actually larger...I have heard this is no good.

Actually, I just purchased an H VS1 and compared it color wise to my sister- in-laws E VS1 and neither of us could tell a difference color wise. They say a good cut helps with color also, so that may be why. H is considered white so I don't know why some people seem so prone to put down H or I diamonds. I wanted white, sparkly and no inclusions visible to the naked eye. Maybe a machine can pick up that H's are not colorless but even against a white piece of paper I haven't seen that. Here's a good reference chart: http://www.dirtcheapdiamonds.com/diamonds101.cfm I say, buy what YOU like and what feels right to you...never let someone else make that decision.

Thans for the input. I know what you are saying. When I went to look at stones (not the ones in question), I had a difficult time telling H apart from E that is why I am considering the H. However, that was only against a white piece of paper. I did not compare them base upon their "sparkle" since the cuts weren't comparable.

These cuts are comparable. Will the E sparkle significantly more? to the eye of a pro? to the eye of a consumer?

Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan, Everyone has a different tolerance for color. Mine is extremely low, so I needed a whiter stone. I got an E. Shaped stones when NOT well cut can show so much color, unlike round stones. Rounds can got WHITE even in J...Ask PQCollectibles...she has a lovely well cut J in platinum.

Now honestly, I will not recommend a high color to everyone. it depends on your budget, your tolerance, your priorities in a stone. If you want size, lower color. If you want rarity, go up in color or clarity (but I prefer the color). I will NOT recommend an H to someone with a shaped stone, and likes a white color and prefers quality to size. It's all a matter of preference really...And if an H is white to you and it's a great stone in your eyes, great! Every diamond needs love, even E's and H's!!!

No.....color has absolutely *nothing* to do with sparkle. Sparkle is directly related to the cut proportions of the diamond.

Therefore, an E and an H of comparable cuts will sparkle equally.....color does not have any bearing on that. Color only relates to how white or colorless the stone appears to your eye.

If you're saying that you couldn't see the color in the H unless it was against a white piece of paper, then you should feel VERY comfortable getting an H. Once set, it will appear very white......no worries.
