Hi everyone,

I''m new here, although I''ve been reading the forums for a while. Very helpful info. In your opinion, which of the following two round diamonds would you pick?

2.04 carats, H color, VS2, good/good - HRD certified

1.73 carats, G color, VS2, very good/very good - HRD certified

I''m leaning toward the larger stone, except for some reason I keep fooling myself into thinking that the color difference between G and H is visible to the naked eye. Any recommendations? Thanks everyone.

Do you have any more information from the certs?? Depth, table, crown and pavilion angles??

I don''t have that information right now. Sorry.

This seems to be a pretty significant difference in size! Without any other info, I would be partial towards the larger stone...just my own opinion...

I know HRD is a respected lab, and I believe Very Good is their highest grade, equivalent to a GIA Ex. So, I''m "guessing" Good is the next level down...Which would be like GIA Very Good. If that''s the case, then that part''s not bad. But really, we''d need all the other info to make a meaningful recommendation.

Most on here would tell you they''d rather have a better cut, smaller stone, than a larger so so stone. The cut is what makes a diamond razzle and dazzle you.

Any way you could get the rest of the info?

Yes I will get the information as soon as I can and post it here. I have roughly $20k for my project and I want to get the nicest stone possible. Obviously I''d like a D-Flawless, but I know I want my carat weight to be between 1.80 and 2.00 because it''s going to be a solitaire.

We really need more information to give you the best advice, can you ask the vendor for depth, table, crown, pavillion, and girdle information?

If the color being a level lower is all that bothers you, I would want the bigger! G and H are both good colors to me and bigger is always better

"! Ofcouse I'm just a girl that loves diamonds, by no means do I mean to give advice on which is better by grade.

Just based on that alone, I'd personally go for the one I know to be cut better and higher in colour, even though it's smaller (it's still really big!) *hides*

I think what you are hearing here is that it''s all about the cut first. Need the angles and table sizes. It could very well be that the larger diamond has a deep cut and the smaller diamond has an ideal cut making the spread (how large the diamond looks to the nacked eye) on the smaller diamond larger. ie the smaller looks bigger or as big with better brilliance. Curious to see how this turns out.

By the way, ever since these wonderful woman on PS got me hooked I pay more attention to what I see people wearing and without hesitation (I see a lot of diamonds bigger than my wife''s 1.53 ct and they are dead) I''d much rather have a great smaller diamond with great life, fire and scintillation. Blows a dull large diamond away every time. Good luck and listen to these folks if you''re smart.
