They are exactly the same price:

1) 1.01 ct - G color - VS2 - GIA Very Good
2) 0.84 ct - G color - VS2 - GIA Excellent

I always thought ladies valued size above all else but everyone on the forum says "cut". I'd love to get some thoughts from experts. Thx

You really have not supplied us with enough info. Links to the GIA reports would be a help so we can look at the "cut". From what
you have provided....only look at well cut stones (Excellent/Ideal) and sometimes they are even cut that well. So that eliminates
#1. Dont know if the cut on number 2 is good either because we dont have enough info so that eliminates #2.

Provide us with some specs (I see G/VS2 may be your specs) and a budget and we can point you to what some well cut stones in your
budget look like. You can use these for reference if you dont plan on buying on line.

Thank you very much tyty the links are:

#2: http://bit.ly/1RXuKu5

My budget is $4,500-5,000 for the stone. I'd appreciate it if you could point me to a direction. As you said, some sample stones at this price point would be great for reference.

And what carat should I go for at this price? Where I'm from, women tend to care for the size of the diamond, brag etc... Thanks!

1. Not good. Too deep. 1 carat should be 6.4mm in diameter. At 6.2mm, the stone will appear more like 0.9c.
2. Has potential. Need the photo and Idealscope image to see light performance.

For reference,
With 4.5~5.0k, you can get an ideal cut 0.9 G VS with some searching
If you want to go above 1.0c, the color needs to be lowered to I/J color.

#1 has an average diameter near 6.2 mm. Small spread, big depth. It also has a shallow-deep pavilion+crown average that may cause it to get dark in close viewing. It's a candidate for AGS 5-6 in performance. It would be prudent to have a gemologist inspect the natural and indented natural on the pavilion, as it relates to setting the diamond, pressure-points, etc.

#2 has an average diameter near 6.1 mm. Balanced spread and depth. It's a 60-60 make with averages that look good on paper. Candidate for AGS 0-1 in performance.

I think that may be a lot of places ;-)

Short summary: The 1.00 ct has the spread of other well-cut 0.88 ct diamonds it might be compared to. It may also get dark when viewed close-up. Technically it weighs 1.00 ct but do not expect it to look as big as other 1.00 ct diamonds. The 0.84 ct has good spread and will appear larger than many average rounds of that weight.

Grading reports are limited; we have only rounded and averaged numbers to go by. Yet physically these diamonds are quite close in diameter and - in terms of performance and brightness - the 0.84 ct example could actually (ironically) appear larger than the 1.00 ct in many light conditions.

Like the above posters were saying, you're not going to hit the 1 carat mark (unless it's not a well cut stone).

Nice stone, this G is also the biggest (in the G/F stones)

Well cut Fs...if interested, make sure with JA that they are eye-clean

1 carat I color (I would ask JA had the color compared to other I colored stones and if the clouds affect the stone in any way.

The consensus on I color is that it is fairly bright/white from the top but you can see tint at the side. Fine for people who are
not color sensitive and want to gain a little more size. Not fine for people who are color sensitive.
