Hello guys,
I have two diamonds that i can't decide which one is better. all four diamonds are graded by AGS and hearts and arrow. however, i read that AGS can be more lenient on their grading so I don't know if the grading would be lower if i send it to GIA. what are your thoughts? thank you :)

#1. 0.70, E/VVS2, $4600
table: 56.4%, depth: 61.4%
crown angle: 34.4, pav angle: 40.9

#2. 0.65, E/IF, $4800
table: 55.6%, depth: 61.5%
crown angle: 34.4, pav angle: 40.8

#3. 0.73, D/VS1 $4600
table: 54.9%, depth: 61.5%
crown angle: 34.6, pav angle: 40.8

#4. 0.62, D/VS1, $3700
table: 55.2%, depth: 61.2%
crown angle: 34.2, pav angle: 40.9

You need to add diameters on all of those. It makes a difference. I'd choose #3 if it has the largest diameter and I like it's angles. Do you have idealscope images or images of the stones?

AGS is very reliable grading. There have been instances reported here of dually certed stones being graded higher color (only) by AGS, but those may all have been borderline color stones. I don't let that worry me as I still buy AGS ideal cut stones.

#3 is the biggest. i know most ppl say that VVS and VS are both eye clean and it is not worth to pay for the extra premium. but i dont know if i could ever be ok with a VVS even though they are pretty much the same... just not sure if the price premium is worth it... i've struggling on this

so AGS is pretty accurate on clarity?

I think a VS is fine on clarity. Yes, AGS is pretty accurate on clarity.

I'd get a Royal Asscher!

Kidding, kidding...

I remember going crazy looking at the specs of the stones I was considering. Vs is gonna be great. But, if you're going to always think of the VVs, you might wanna consider only looking at those, then size/color after that. You don't wanna spend your money on a stone, but obsess about another. What's hard is if you're not able to view the stones for comparison. As I know you've probably heard, you've gotta see these stones, or similar ones in person, so you've got a pretty good idea of what all these specs mean.

G'luck in your journey...the fact that you're here, you're asking questions, you're getting involved in the quality of the stone search is a sure sign that whatever you choose, it'll be stunning. Try to enjoy this process!

Thank you guys. I was more inclined go with number 1 and 2. But 'not sure if I should go for a 0.70ct vvs2 or a slightly smaller 0.65 but an IF clarity which is a bit more expensive. I can't see them in person as these are preorder thank you

Vanny,
If you're concerned about 'leniency' of the graders, maybe you should consider sticking with the diamonds that have been certified by the strictest standards. That way, you might feel better knowing that you are, in fact (by the strictest standards, that's what I did because I had same concerns as you) getting what you are paying for, or at least feeling better about the more strict grading. I was fortunate enough to have the supplier ship the diamonds that I was comparing to my home. Then, I could see for myself. Just some thoughts.
