Hi,

Here are stats on two diamonds that I would like your opinion on:

Diamond 1:
Carat: 1.21
Color: G
Clarity:VS2
Cut: Ideal
Certification: AGS
Depth: 60.2%
Table: 56.0%
Pavilion: 40.9
Crown: 33.2
HCA Score: 0.7 (All Excellent)
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.92*6.96*4.17

Diamond 2:
Carat Weight: 1.191 cts.
Certification: AGS
Measurements: 6.83-6.86 x 4.16mm
Cut Grade: AGS Ideal 0
Color Grade: AGS 1.5 (G)
Clarity Grade: AGS 4 (VS2)
Fluorescence: Negligible
Table: 56.2%
Depth: 60.8%
Culet: Pointed
Crown Angle: 34.2
Pavilion Angle: 40.7
HCA: 0.8 (All Excellent, except Very Good for Spread)

The price difference is very small so that is not a concern. Specifically, I have a few questions:

1) Since Diamond 1 is slightly bigger, given the measurements, is that difference even noticeable (6.92*6.96*4.17 vs. 6.83-6.86 x 4.16mm)?

2) How important is the "Spread" factor for the HCA analysis?

3) Diamond 2's picture + AGS cert show only one minor inclusion, a small feather on the outer part of the diamond. Diamond 1, however, features a noticeable crystal on the table as well as a couple of small feathers on the sides and the AGS cert mentions that clouds are not shown. Is it possible for even a V2 to not be eyeclean? (Please see pics below)

4) Lastly, does it matter if one diamond's arrows are more distinct than the other? Which one do you think has stronger arrows?

Which one would you prefer and why?

Do you have ideal-scope or aset images?

Hi Karl,

No, unfortunately, I don''t. Aren''t those images more about light return and brilliance than anything else? I''m just concerned about the inclusions. How do inclusions show up in ASET or idealscope images?

Thanks,
BB

1) Since Diamond 1 is slightly bigger, given the measurements, is that difference even noticeable (6.92*6.96*4.17 vs. 6.83-6.86 x 4.16mm)? Doubtful you would notice any difference, there might be a very slight difference with direct comparison if you were looking for it, not so much without.

2) How important is the 'Spread' factor for the HCA analysis? Normally only shallower stones get EX for spread on the HCA, no worries.

(Please see pics below) Best way to tell is to ask one of the JA staff to inspect both diamonds for you and advise accordingly, you can't tell by the report or magnified pics. Make sure the JA staff member you consult understands your standards and expectations of what an eyeclean diamond means to you.

4) Lastly, does it matter if one diamond's arrows are more distinct than the other? Which one do you think has stronger arrows? No, but if you are concerned then Idealscope images would show the arrow pattern more distinctly than photos.

Which one would you prefer and why? Both appear to be great diamonds but I would choose the second as I like the proportions but both are finely cut diamonds.
ETA - I just noticed your query on your last post concerning inclusions, the only way to know is to contact JA, and get them to inspect each diamond for you.

Thanks, Lorelei.

Can you explain to me further what you mean when you prefer Diamond 2''s "proportions" over Diamond 1? What are you referring to exactly? Sorry, I''m not quite an expert in knowing what looks good right off the bat when it comes to the numbers.

I'm not Lorelei, but I'll try to help you. What she and others, and I are most specifically looking at are the crown and pavilion angles. These are basically (assuming everything else is as it should be), the driving force for the diamond. It's what makes a diamond bright and firey and sparkly.

There are lots of combinations that work, but there is a certain range that seems to give the best mix of all these attributes. The second stone has a crown and pavilion (and everything else looks good) that work very well together.

So I hope that helps!

Thanks for all the help, everyone. I''m about to make a final decision. Does anyone else want to weigh in or vote differently? Thanks!
