Which octopi?

My first PS poll

Now a warning the opening post is going to be long and rambling because Gary and the cats are having a nap and i have no one to talk too





Im assuming octopi is the plural of octopuse ?

Anyway
So i thought I'd maybe have a bit of fun
And in my defence all my unfinished projects are works in progress and i am actually making progress even if i switch between projects as i browse the intrrnet

So its all to do with my Whitby jet necklace (did you know Whitby is where Capt James Cook came from ?)


Anyway so last night i was a bit of a dumb a*se and in my haste ordered some crystal 'jet beads'


Ahhhhhhhhhhhh

But it got my creative juices flowing or i just had insomnia worrying about in no particular order, Ukrain and nucular annihilation, Covid, Gary, the cats, the Queen, inflation, the economy etc etc



As I've desided in order to follow through on my quest to make all things wearable im going to stop looking for fascated jet beads and just shove a few fasciated silver beads at the end to accommodate the fat neck


i mean if in the future some fasciated Whitby jet beads fall from the sky like Manna from heaven I'll be the first in line

But then i remembered i had previously looked at Whitby jet pendents -

i don't want my necklace to look like Victorian mourning jewlery,



i want to give it a new happy lease on life
So life is actually rather pivotal in the direction im going in

so im thinking id want something as angular as possibly (as opposed to some of the lovelly but curvy Celtic designs available) to compliment the fascets on the beads .....
but then nature is more of a curvy girl ...

So I was thinking the old octopus has all those legs going every which way and Whitby jet is washed up on the beach so a nortical connection isnt too much of a stretch (im not into dolphins or whale tails)
Ive always liked the octopus because as a baby i didn't have a Ted, i had an Octy instead

And if it looks too conflicting with the fascets of the beads ill just wear it on the silver chain it comes with and think of something elce i guess

Making a poll is a lot harder than it looks especially on a phone

My criteria is it must be silver, no cz's and under $100
The blue one is aprox 2ox25mm but comes with no chain
Ive seen lirimar ones all over the internet at prices all over the show

and yes oxidised silver would tie in with the jet
These are all i had to compair sizes

Hmmm they are going to be smaller

The necklace will only need a few silver beads on each side at the back but id have to remove the big jet bead from the centre

This one is 30mm
So a comparable size to the Tinky cat pendent i used as a guide
Ive made so many mistakes in the past not getting a piece big enough

I love the top one - especially the oxidised legs

As much as i love the blue
i think this is better value
Its a better size
Postage is aprox NZ $20
Also its jet like the necklace

If i don't say so myself while terribly self indulgent this thread in the short time ive been doodling has been very useful

i know im not ment to be buying new stuff (except to make things i already own wearable) but i worked an extra day last week (well a half day) and i know im surposed to be saving for a new oven
But im going to buy the smaller octy to wear as a pendent because NZ$63 including postage is a song for that little octy

ill see how to looks beside the jet and then buy the jet one from the UK

I am going to sleep on it

He's getting a bit knackered at 50

once when i was a teenager he had to go back to dad's work to get a tentacle sewn back on
He went to police college with my friend
Then when i lived in Wellington a tentacle fell apart
I took him to the bag and shoe repair place at the railway station where he was sewn up again ... the man asked me what kind of thing ? (as in bag) was he
He has a zip in his tummy for his 1970s furniture stuffing
His stuffing got a bit flat so i filled him up with lint from the dryer

right now his zip is a bit sad and he would probably like some leather conditioner ....i must do that

Despite him being vinyl they built furniture to last back in those days

All my boyfriend's have always hated him

I'm completely useless as I love them all but the vinyl octi is the best!!!

I am not advising that you wear him round your neck but he does have a certain charm.

I ordered the smaller blue one for $60
i just had to have him, for that price he doesn't come with a chain but i intend to buy the Whitby jet one from the Yorkshire jewlers - and ill use the blue one to gauge the size

The blue one is omly coming from Australia so hopefully wont take too long

Oh my its small
(Not tiny, just small)
And none of my silver chains fit through the who-dacky
Ill have to take it to the jewler and get some sort of extra ring but on it

it came very well packaged and with a knock on the door
not bad for Aussie $60 (but $40 would have been better )

So i think i definatly have to get the bigger whitby jet one
But of course now i have another property tax bill due so it might have to go back on the back burner for a wee while
maybe wait till end of July when the boarders we open and there will be lots of incoming flights to bring the post again
