as title.

Is it good to sacrifice light return for spread?

Light Return
Very Good

Fire
Excellent

Scintillation
Excellent

Spread
or diameter for weight
Excellent

Total Visual Performance
1 - Excellent

I am DEFINITELY not an expert, but if I understand it correctly, I think spread will be basically how large the diamond measures around for weight, whereas the light return will be the light returning to the eyes. I think I personally would rather have less spread, more light return (I think it may even make it appear larger to the eye than it really is if it has good light return), but the experts will be able to give you a better answer - hopefully to educate us both!

My personal preference would be for light return, fire, and scintillation to be excellent and settle for very good on spread if necessary. The first three relate to the diamond''s performance and the last to its size. That does not mean your stone is poor however.

Brilliance / light return is rated as 40% of the score. The other 3 factors are given 1/2 the weighting at 20% each.

read all about it www.diamond-cut.com.au which is several years old and a much easier read than any gIa articles.
