Looking at settings from Gabriel & Co, no diamond purchase in the works for at least a few months, just picking out a setting at the moment.... trying to filter my results, how do I know which head size I will need?

A 1 ct princess will be around 5.5mm. Most of the styles will be available for a 1 ct stone.

It depends on the dimensions of the diamond. 2ctRB is about 8mm diameter, 1ct is about 6.5mm, 1.25ct 7mm, 1.5-1.6ct 7.5mm, etc. and similar for princess. The depth of the diamond sometimes affects the choice of head, too. Search for "diamond size chart" and you'll find them for various diamond shapes in addition to rounds.

He is looking at 1 ct princess stones and well cut ones are around 5.5mm. The next size up is 5.75 and that will work if you go up to around 1.25 cts.

DS, do you have an e-mail address I could send a couple questions to? Or is there a PM function on this forum i'm missing?

There is not a PM function and we aren't allowed to post email addresses. But I have a listing on Loupe Troop and you can reach me that way. Just a sec and let me find it.

Okay, I don't think I am supposed to post the direct link on this forum, but go to Pre-Loved and my thread begins with 1.58 GIA XXX G VS1. The link to the LT listing is the second link in the first post. My email is at the very bottom of the description.

Thank you! But I wore my original 1 ct stone for 30 years! That was a 30th anniversary gift from my husband! I may change to a different diamond, though, so that is why I listed it. I haven't aggressively tried to sell it because I haven't found the replacement yet!

Thought about doing that now, buy a small stone and then several years down the road buying a bigger one, but the girlfriend says that she would never voluntarily replace my original ring. She would wear both, but never the newer one in place of her original engagement ring.
