My wife wears the five-stone ring shown in my avatar as an engagement/wedding ring, by itself. I saw an entertainer on TV with similarly styled (graduated) earrings and thought they would make a good surprise anniversary gift. They have a triangular shape as opposed to being completely round; my perception is the advantage of this shape is:
the last (bottom) diamond faces more upwards with this design. But that doesn't make it more pleasing to the eye, necessarily, in real life.

Note: the slightly triangular earrings, "answer" #1, are shown twice; the first being a photo taken of the earring on my television screen, the second #1 photo is my effort to photoshop the graduated triangular design onto an ear so I could see what it looks like.

[I'm also considering the inside-out earring option - a completely different but spectacular design so I won't offer that as an option for this poll.]

So, which of the three designs do you like best?
#1: Graduated, slight triangular shape

#2 Round, with all (five) 20 point diamonds
#3 Round with graduated 25-20-15-12-10 diamonds

Number 1 for me, I like it because it’s not a traditional hoop and you can see all the diamonds.

Personality I would opt for rounds and reverse the graduation so that the biggest stone is at the top.
DK :))

#1 so long as they are not too heavy and droop.l

Nice photoshop job! I voted for #1; #3 would be my second choice. I really like your idea of graduated hoops because they are not the usual, all-the-same-size-stones hoops, but are still timeless -- unlike, say, some jewelry seen in the 1980's Dynasty TV show ;))

As expected, I voted for round Huggies with same size stones. Checked my old record, and realize that my Huggies have 0.31 stones.
Guess one of your concern is the bottom stones which face away may not be as obvious as the top ones. In reality, all five diamonds are obvious, because the wearer moves around, and so do the observers.
If you still want the graduated look, then I think the triangular shape setting is a more appropriate style than round. Would you consider increasing the diamond size? Small diamonds tend to “disappear” against bigger background such as ear/face than finger. In addition, bigger diamonds may help make the graduated, triangular shape more pronounced.

I am "struggling" right now with the bigger might look better idea right now. About a 30% premium to go 30-25-20-15-12 vs eliminating the 30 point diamond and replacing it with a 10 pointer (at the other end). But, there is a point where if you don't size your diamonds at least to some minimum level a design won't look that good, and instead of saving $1.2K you're wasting 100% of the money you did spend.
If we're going to worry too much about the $$ we probably need to find a different hobby!

The design is pretty & I think either size you choose will look great. Do you know if she would prefer a smaller hoop or larger hoop? With the increase in diamond size, you may find the size of the hoop itself getting longer. I'd confirm that with the vendor making your earring. My huggies are 15mm but then they are also only 5 x .15pt stones.

I guess I'm the odd man out here, as I like #2 best... but they are all really pretty, so I don't think you can go wrong here. What is her preference?

#2 is getting half the votes, so the non-graduated "regular" hoop design is pretty popular. I appreciate the votes for #3, but I'm probably going to do either the hoop with equally sized diamonds or the triangle with a graduated look.

Unless I change my mind, her preference is to be surprised she is getting earrings/anything for her/our anniversary. :twirl:

In an effort to give #1 a boost, I'm considering the tried and true solution for all jewelry problems: Use bigger diamonds. #4 (newly added) was my original thought, with a 30 point diamond for the "bottom" stone. To save $$ it seems option 1 makes sense, which is the same as the new #4 but takes away the 30 point stone at the bottom and adds a 10 point stone at the top.

Three options for POLL - with fourth option.jpg

Anyway, thanks very much for your replies!
