hey all -

i am trying to think which diamond shape to use for this setting

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/18k-White-Gold-2-2mm-Pave-Set-Diamond-Ring.html

I originally thought round, as it is classic, or perhaps the princess cut? i am afraid my budget calls for something only around the 0.38 carat size.

which looks better?
http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/sold/pave/1345/Pave-Ring-Set.html 0.4 carat round

or 0.5 princess carat round (but remember mine will be around 0.38)

I like the look of the princess better. I would take into consideration that a princess cut will face up smaller than a round. I think in that setting either will look good though. To me the princess is more of a modern look while the round is more traditional

I would prefer round. I am not a fan of the sharp corners of a princess cut.

Agree. Plus a round would look more fluid with the setting. You''re also looking at a size difference of almost one MM (which shows in the diamond world

my personal pref is for round as well. if its well cut, i''ve heard it will have more fire/light return than a well cut princess (but don''t quote me on that)!

I''m surprised but I like the square better. The round flows but at .38 you really want some different lines in there
to make the eye take notice. I think the princess does this better than the round which helps it to stand out better.

Depends on the look you''re trying to achieve. A princess will stand out more from all those rounds. A round would blend in more.
