The first one scored 3.4 on the HCA-"very good-worth buying if the price is right".
The second one scored 6.8-"Fair".

Neither of these stones will perform excellently. What about something like this

or

this one . Again if they''re both eyeclean.

Ditto what bee* said. Based on the HCA scores I would not consider either of those diamonds, as there are far nicer (better performing) ones available.

Bee*''s posted some lovely alternatives for you. :)

The HCA is a rejection tool rather than a selection, the 2 diamonds in question have a steep pavillion angle, and the HCA can ding such diamonds for this. Having said that, yes you can do better. I would not want to consider either of these diamonds without an Idealscope images and expert vendor evaluation, to the best of my knowledge BN does not provide these services at this time. Take a look at Bee's suggestions for far better choices.

Thanks for the info so far. I really havent done the HCA score online (but I will now for sure). I guess my question is this... I was really stuck on getting at least a G and over a carat. I can fluctuate in price a bit, although I want to stay below 6000 for the stone. I wasnt even really considering H... but I am assuming those of you who recommended would be satisfied with it?

A well-cut stone will look great down to even J color. I have an H stone that is 1.1 carats and it looks super white, no need to stay at the G level if it means getting a poorly cut diamond!!!

#2 seems kinda deep but I like that its 1.01.

#1 has better depth and clarity but you don''t really have to go vs2 but vs2 is great.

Hmm...I''d have to see them both to tell. Don''t want any carbon inclusions face up yet don''t want a dark center either.

So I am clear, I can get a stone that has a low (good) HCA score, but not be hearts and arrow and be very, very, nice in terms of light return and brilliance?

You don''t need perfectly formed hearts and arrows, but a distinct arrow pattern is desirable.

You can get an ideal cut stone, AGS0, that has excellent light performance but it may not have perfect hearts and arrows. If you look at AGS0, you don''t need to put the numbers in the HCA. But if you look at GIA excellents, you probably would check out the HCA just to be sure it''s a good GIA Excellent.

OK, everyone... lets assume all of these are "eye clean"... what do you think would be the best bet?

1) http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-584876.htm

Has a great HCA score and is G color. (1.1 score)

2) http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&track=btntext_viewselect&elem=img&pid=LD01275301&filter_id=1

This diamond has a good HCA score, but it looks like it is almost out of the range on the graph (.6 score)

3) http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&track=btntext_viewselect&elem=img&pid=LD01246248&filter_id=1

I have kind of ruled this one out... has a 2.6 score- but looks acceptable.

I am kind of leaning towards the top one, but I could see the top two...

Thoughts?

I think that the top one looks great also. Plus you should ask them about PS discount.

I would absolutely go with the WF stone. Not only are all ACA''s top cut quality, they also have a trade-in poilcy if for any reason in the future you desire to change the stone.

Just so you know, I went with the WF stone. I am really excited. When they asked me who referred me, I said Pricescope and she mentioned I get a 5% discount without me even asking for it.

I am just waiting on final word on whether or not if it is eye-clean.

Congratulations! I love the WF stone! Plus everyone likes an upgrade policy!

Well, everyone - I made a small adjustment. I decided to go with this one:

http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-636620.htm

The reason is that the one I originally selected had a barely visible white inclusion from the side. It was unlikely I would have seen it, but the sales rep recommended this one because she knew there were no visible inclusions from the top or side. It was nice of them to get all of that information together for me.

Anyway, thanks for all of your help!
