Which dinner plates do you feel more sorry for?

I rotate my plates, when i unload the dishwasher the clean one's go on the bottom.....that way none collect dust. If I suddenly need to use all of them (visiting family?), I know they all will be spotless.

I also have to put my glasses with the tops (opening) down. I'm obsessed that dust might get into my dishes and then my mouth. I dust EVERY DAY.

Dust is DEAD SKIN CELLS

there are dead skin cells on plates???

lol, If there is dust, yes. I worry that even if I cant see dust, there might be some there.
I also worry about the microscopic germs that spread around the bathroom when people flush toilets.....
It's the germs/dirt I can't see that scare me the most.
I think the grossest thing is a hand dryer in a public restroom. There have been many articles written about them. How can someone hold their hands under a machine that sucks the bacteria from a public bathroom and blows them back out, only warmed?
honestly - I've discussed this stuff so much with my fellow expats here and we all agree that we have gained such a tolerance for that which is gross. People pick through raw chicken and the woman who sells it tosses a dirty rag for them to wipe their hands on, she puts them on the scale, scratches her head, gets money... I *never* ask for change, I always have the exact amount when I'm at the market. At first you might think you want to be vegetarian, but after a while you realize you have some tools to protect yourself even if surrounded by that which is culturally wrong by our standards. I won't even describe the bathrooms, but after living here I will tell you that I will NEVER EVER again worry about some germs in america being blown through a hand dryer. Seriously. It's like so so clean compared to the environment so much of the world lives AND *SURVIVES* in. I totally understand the feelings of disgust, but I also know that for the most part it's just in your head.

Sometimes I wonder if taking avoiding germs too far weakens our immune systems.

Use it or lose it.

I hear the healthiest people grew up on farms.
Polio spread when indoor plumbing arrived.
People's immune systems no longer got exposed and thereby resistant.

When I take a plate I take one from the top of the stack.
After washing I put them back on the top.
The plates at the bottom rarely get used.

I sometimes wonder . . .
Do you feel more sorry for the plates on the bottom of the stack because they don't get used ... or the ones on the top of the stack because they get used the most?

I also wonder if anyone out there is neurotic enough to rotate their plates.
Then I wonder if that's not neurotic, but rather sensible and commonly done.

Ya know, I never thought about this. But I have to admit that when I emptied the dishwasher last night I made sure to put the washed plates on the bottom because I was thinking of this thread! LOL

Well, I never had children, but now I know that at least my life was not in vain.

This is something I have never, ever thought about before. Ever.

Yeah, you know it's a slow week on PS when the topic for discussion is which dinner plate you feel sorry for.

Seriously...I am choosing to continue to NOT wonder about my lonely bottom plates.

Huh, I'm more confused about the skin cell part. Do people take their dishes out of the dishwasher and rub them on their arms or something before putting them in the cupboard?

um...

I can honesty say I really don't give is ***** about the dinner plates because they're just dinner plates. They're white, if one breaks, we go get another.

I don't even know how many is in the cabinet right now...

what I CAN Say is that last night, I made a bomb ass beer can chicken on the grill. the leftovers is on a plate in the refrigerator (at least I know where that plate went!) :D

Kenny! I don't think I ever responded to one of your threads before...but I just want to say...

You are a RIOT!!!

Trillion brownie points to you - I have tears rolling down my cheeks!! And no, the brownie and cheeks is NOT a deliberate hark back to your recent previous thread!!

Keep em coming sweetheart...this one has brought a huge dollop of cheer to the end of my day :appl:

:))

I got a whole assortment of plates by the way...some haven't seen the light of day for several years now...tis sad...somehow they cope with the loneliness...just!

Glad people had fun with the thread.

We don't have to be serious all the time. ;))

Yes, on Pricescope the discussion of the relationship between polio and indoor plumbing was certain to have devolved from the topic of the emotions of dinner plates.

In the original fim, "The Graduate" a man at Benjamin's graduation party walks up to him and says, "I have only one word for you: plastics". I know this because, "The Graduate" was my husband's favorite movie for many years. He saw it at least 30 times. And he used to quote dialogue from it to me. When I read the beginning of this thread I wanted to write, "I have only one word for you: anthropomorphism".

Of course Holly said the same thing in her own words. Those dinner plates sure do look a lot like people!

Feel sorry for plates? I'm going to have to say none of the above. The only thing I notice about plates (and all dishes) is that whatever there is- SO will use. I can (barely) get my dishes in the dishwasher. SO wants to get more dishes. I'm not encouraging that.

I tend to rotate them so they get used equally.

Now Kenny...we know that plates don't have feelings...only jewelry and watches do and needs to be rotated and worn so they don't get their feelings hurt. My jewelry gets very hurt and jealous if i don't take time to pay it the deserved attention! :D

Damn you, Kenny! As a result of this thread, I am now "feeling sorry" for the roll of toilet paper at the bottom of my spare roll holder and have moved it to the top! I usually just replace a roll as I use a new one, but I've been thinking that that one roll at the bottom has been there for quite some time and is starting to feel "neglected". Damn you, Kenny!

Ok, I'm going to revise my answer. I love my Corelle white plates (white glass, strong, thin, and light, oh, and functionally shaped) so I'm going to feel sorry for all of my plates and bowls that are not Corelle because they're going bye, bye.

Hahaha.

I LURVE! my Corelle plates too.

I've been using the same set daily that I bought back in the 70s.
They are almost indestructible BUT when one finally does break it explodes into a zillion scalpel-sharp pieces.

I use corelle too!! I use the plain, simple white, because if/when I do break one, it's easy to replace. I break a glass nearly every week, and I haven't broken a plate or bowl in something like 9 or 10 years! It's awesome.

Kenny, seriously? Are you bored? lol

Which testicle do you feel more sorry for... the one that gets to hang lower or the one that gets to be closer to your body? Hmm....
most men switch them back and forth.. :wink2:

They have cereal bowls but they have these big bowls too- they're good for about 1001 uses. I'm going to get some.

My parents had Corelle in the 70's. The one thing I miss is they don't make cups and saucers now. Just ceramic mugs. They're not even Corelle!

But yeah- I'm moving 100% to that. The rest I'm going to donate.

I have a lot of dinnerware. I used to have stoneware, but as they chipped, etc. I donated the ones that were in good shape to goodwill.

For everyday, I have 2 sets of corelle (1 set of 8 and 1 set of 12) and 1 set of Pfaltzgraff. The set of 8 used to be a set 12 (though it could be less depending if they are soup bowls or dessert plates, mugs, or dinner plates) and DD and her friends use these as they are CLUMSY!!!! Corelle does not do very well when it comes crashing down onto a tile floor or a granite countertop. I always wash a full load in the dishwasher so there are usually no dishes I need to feel sorry for. They usually all get a good cleaning at least once a week.

Now I also have 2 sets of fine china (Noritake). One set of 12 and one set of 24. These I only use on special occasions, like Thanksgiving, Christmas, special family dinners, or when we have a somewhat more formal dinner party. I store these in a china storage set and after using and cleaning I store these at the bottom of the pile to make sure I rotate them so they wear evenly...if you know what I mean.

I also have 3 sets of cutlery.....DD's friends for whatever reason manage to lose one or 2 (in the trash? who knows??) so they use the really cheap ones that I can always replace easily.

We actually go thru ALL our plates somehow, so this isn't an issue for us. However, I have other things that we don't go all the way thru and I do rotate them so no one particular item is getting the most wear. I want them to last the same amount of time. It's easier to replace them all with something new than to try to find onsie, twosies. Or at least that's the excuse I use to get all new stuff. ;))

Yeah, we broke two plates this month and now are at the point of going through all of them (between four people). Guess it's time to buy some more. I hate running out of stuff. Somehow we have accumulated 20+ drinking glasses and the ones on the top shelf never get used.

i also have the white corelle (sp)set that I use for every day.In fact im using a plate right now...the large bowls are great for serving vegetables and popcorn etc.
