Hi,

My husband is buying me a diamond ring for my 40th birthday and my jeweller has two stones from which I need to choose one. Both have GIA reports. They are

1. 1.50ct Princess Cut - Colour D, Clarity VS2
Finish - Polish - Excellent
Symmetry - Very good
Fluoresence - None

2. 1.50ct Princess Cut - Colour D, Clarity VS1
Finish - Polish - Very good
Symmetry - Good
Fluoresence - None

Both diamonds are a similar price. However,my jeweller tells me that the first diamond will be valued higher because of the cut. I have reservations about going with a VS2 diamond. Is there a great difference between VS1 and VS2? Could someone please help?

Thanks

Welcome girl40. I don''t think VS2 is your concern as much as making sure you''ve got good cut. Right now, you could find higher symmetry ratings. If you will post the specs, we will be able to comment more. Many SI1s are eyeclean, and most all VS2s are.

You should read the tutorial listed on PS to learn more about the 4 c''s and how important cut is.

I would suggest looking at AGS graded princess, as they grade on light performance. If you go with an AGS0, you''ll be fairly certain to get a very good stone.
