Hi everyone,

I've been looking at getting an engagement ring for my gf for a long time now. I'm looking to spend around $7000 CAD and want to go high cut and color and low clarity for the value. Looking for a 0.7-0.8 ct. These 2 diamonds have shown up on Brian Gavin recently that appear to fit my needs:

Diamond 1
Diamond 2

Through live chat on the website I have confirmed that both are eye clean. My concern on diamond 1 is that the inclusions are so close to the middle. You can slightly see it in their magnified images, but it doesn't look bad, just that it's so close to the center where everyone can see. Diamond 2 has that big feather. It doesn't look like you can see it from above and it doesn't look to hurt the performance of the diamond. What are the thoughts on a feather like this?

Lastly, the reason I'm going with Brian Gavin is that they are the only ones that have the setting my gf likes. Actually this Birk's ring is the ideal setting, but I don't like that their diamonds are not certified by AGS or GIA. They say they have in-house people grade them. They also have a price premium for the name. If anyone knows of an alternate place for this setting, I'd be open. I want to get the whole ring at one place though. I don't want to go through multiple suppliers.

Thanks for any help!

If you're concerned about clarity and want to stick with BGD, go for this one:

.708ct, F, VS1

About the same price as the SI1, due to it possessing fluorescence, but far higher clarity, so that it will be mind-clean, as well as eye-clean.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the reply! This one also has an inclusion near the middle and I can see it in the pictures as well. Also the florescent blue diamonds are a little concerning. I think it's cool, but people always mention that they can appear cloudy, etc... I've never actually seen one in real life, so I'm hesitant to go that route.

As a VS1, it definitely won't be visible with the naked eye-clean.

Fluor is a great option to save some money and in RARE occasions you'll find an issue with the stone. When you buy from BGD or any other Pricescope vendor, they will vet the stone to ensure no negative effects from fluorescence, prior to selling/shipping. You'll actually find a topic of someone looking for one of these 'overblue' stones, and is having trouble even locating one!

Many people who have stones with fluor don't even realize it, until they check under a blacklight. Worthwhile to consider, if you want to put more of the budget into a nice setting!

If you're looking for high cut, high colour, but also high clarity as a bonus, I think this might be perfect:

http://www.highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=view-id-diamond-infinity-new&id=1145
Crafted by Infinity (one of the best cuts out there), 0.73ct, F, VVS2, 5300 USD (wire) = c.5800 CAD

I almost went for it myself but it was a bit of a stretch for my budget! Wink confirmed that the dark bits on the Hearts picture must be dust as VVS2 would be virtually impossible to see, even blown up, and having got a VVS2 stone myself now, I struggle to see any inclusions whatsoever!
