Hi,

I''d appreciate advice deciding between these two diamonds. I realize that the stone has to be checked in person but do these specs hint at anything? Thanks!

anyone? anyone?

Bueller?

The second sounds (as you say) nicer to me. Stone #1 would be quite a bit on the shallow side - and this taking into account that the depth % is calculated relative to the width (smaller denominator than the length or whatever combination could account for the shape of the stone to come up with one number for depth).

You may want to inspect some standard for this shape in advance (see the 'fancy shapes' link on the frontpage). However, numbers can tell only that much - the bottom line of this would be to have the stones selected for brilliance, I would think. Especially since it is unlikely that you will get to see many and different enough stones lined up to do so - it will still be the seller presenting his selection for you to inspect, and those stones might not even be what the seller himself considers best... Oh well

PS: oh... and did you see that funny "fancy shape selector" at www.gemsppraisers.com? At 1.3 LxW one of your stones is quite 'rounded' - do you like them this way or it just happened?

Just true to PS way... how about these contenders?

1.06cts I-VS2

1ct G-SI1

both are likely to be listed by more than one seller (you can run a serch for both), I am trying to list diamonds NOT shops

Thanks Valeria! D'oh..actually a ring(generic four prong) made with the 1st stone should arrive this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes. Granted I can't do a comparison but i'll see if it's love.

I asked the saleswoman which one and she said the first was best, but I wasn't sure if she was certain or just tired of my billion questions.

I have 10 days for inspection and there's an upgrade policy as well.(I was torn between emerald and oval

I noticed that the second one would be chubby..sounds cute, but I don't think I've ever seen one like that IRL.

Love those stocky-to-square emeralds!

With ring in hand it would be the easiest way I know of to give a mark for brilliance to the respective stone without a hoard of others to build up comparison material and experience on. The opinion of an appraiser would be better, but my instinct says that the respective little toy would be fun and very straightforward.

You may find reference Iscope images at Idealscope.com and, even better, among the ovals listed for sale or as "educational diamonds" at goodoldgold.com.

Good luck
