Hi, I think i''ve found the stone i like but now there''s a 2nd one. Here''s the stats of both

1. 1.95 Very Good Cut F Colour VS1 1.02 L/W ratio 63.9 depth % 64% table 7.11 x 7.00 x 4.47 medium blue fluorescence slightly thick girdle

2. 2.45 Very Good Cut D Colour VS2 1.00 L/W ratio 68.3% depth 63% table 7.37 x 7.34 x 5.01 strong blue fluorescence thick girdle

The 2nd one is $5000 more than the 1st.

I''m really stressing out about this so any comments would be greatly appreciated. I''m buying over the internet so i''m not going to be able to see the stone before i purchase it, although it will be returnable.

Thanks so much for your help!

Ask for ASET images of both stones.
I cant buy from numbers, so you cant either

thanks... i hope that''s something they''re willing to do (blue nile) as they already told me that they wont provide pictures

the reason i chose bluenile is that i''ve got a friend who purchased a diamond from that site and had a good experience - maybe i should widen the search

I bought my asscher from goodoldgold.
I was very happy with their service and they seem to locate some well-cut asschers.
They do provide Idealscope and ASET pics too.

Usually I prefer the asschers that get their lifetime guarantee to the ones that get their 30 day guarantee.
I think they are more willing to take back the ones that are cut better.
It perplexes me why they even buy the other ones.
Why not just only buy the well cut ones?
Maybe the good cutters can't keep up with demand.

Blue Nile is reputable but they provide less diamond info.
To evaluate how well an asscher is cut you need those pics.

How bout this one?

yap, definitely not from BN if you are buy a fancy cut stone such as Asccher.

Big ditto, you need detailed photos, an ASET and a Sarin or Helium report to judge an asscher.

Can Karl still comment on asschers from GOG?

I wonder what he, or any ASET expert, thought of the 1.93ct G VS2 I linked above.

Kenny,

You are under a misconception. GOG does not buy the stones in general that have only a 30 day guarantee. As has been stated, it is difficult to judge Asscher cuts stones by the numbers so Jon and the GOG buying staff call in many stones, the ones that don''t meet their strict standards although still listed for sale (after all the ASET and other images have already been done and posted online) but the stone itself is still virtual inventory as it would be returned to the vendor. Some buyers don''t want to pay the premium for a lifetime policy or have Size, Color or Clarity requirements and stones cut for light performance not to preserve weight may not be available in their spec range, therefore these 30 day stones are still preferred by some customers.

Thanks CCL.

I have commented on that diamond a few times now.
The aset is so-so. The diamond is pretty but not top of the line going by the video.

If it was a newer one I could help evaluate the ASET but not the diamond.

Thanks Karl, but I don't understand this statement.

Isn't evaluating the ASET evaluating the diamond?

And what does it being newer have to do with anything?

Evaluating the ASET/IS/Video is different than saying the diamond is kicken/not kicken which is what I used to be able to do for any diamond.

THanks for everyone''s comments so far, i''m going to call blue nile this afternoon and see if there''s anything else they can provide me with and we''ll see what happens.

If you care about light performance and want a stone cut for optimal light return you can''t buy an asscher from Bluenile they are just a drop shipper and won''t have seen the stone. Better to stick with a PS vendor who can get you ASET and Idealscope images of your choices. I would still speak to Jon at GOG, Bob at WF or other vendors to see what they can find for you.

Thanks everyone..... i''ve been writing in another thread to let you know that bluenile told me no to the pics and no to me flying down to view a couple stones. They also told me all the asschers they sell will look similar to the stock pics........ seems weird from what i''ve learned on here, that''s not the case

I dont feel comfortable with bluenile so i''m now going to look into the other 2 places you suggested. Hopefully the prices will be similar, but i am willing to pay a little more for piece of mind. To drop that amount of money without having anything to see is too much for me.

LOL..... who knew diamond shopping could be so stressful!
