I''m looking for new bedding (duvet cover) for my master bedroom. I like modern, clean lines, and am leaning towards something in the blue or green family. Maybe purple. Definitely not neutral, as this is what I am replacing - the carpet and walls are khaki colored and I need some bedding that will spruce up the room!

I''ve looked at pottery barn, crate and barrell, and restoration hardware and nothing has really inspired me. Most department store selections are too traditional for my taste. I have loved Calvin Klein''s Bamboo Flowers set, but a friend has it, so I don''t want to be a copycat. (Even though I liked it before she got it!)

Any ideas of where to shop?

Thanks!

Check out Bloomie''s and Bed Bath and Beyond.

I would honestly google bedding, using as many key words as you can, and see what seems most like you in taste. Are there any non chain high end bedding stores near by? I always like to see things and touch them. I was going to mention Calvin Klein and any other designer known for their more clean and contemporary lines. Not sure of who else, Hilfiger or Nautica or Donna Karan (if she does bedding) might have a more contemporary collection in their lines.

How about Linens & Things or Bed, Bath and Beyond? They always have a huge selection, and you can usually get a great deal with their weekly 20% off coupons.

Check out the selection at Bluefly.com They carry 'Dwell' which is funky, modern and top quality.

There's also a site called something like "apartmenttherapy" that will have LOTS of suggestions.

Or what about Marimekko?

Another idea: Design Within Reach "dwr.com"

Actually, I have a grass-green 600 tc duvet cover I bought there. But I don't think I like it and it's just sitting there. Shame I can't just send it to you!

What about this one from West Elm? They have a few others that might work for you.

Oh, thank you all so much! You have given me some great ideas! I can''t wait to show DH these links. I really like West Elm, DWR, and the place that EBree posted. Thanks again and keep those ideas coming!

I did check out BB and B and saw one duvet set that i liked, but it had a lot of white, which means we''d have to boot the dog from the bedroom altogether. It''s still in the running though. I do like those 20% off coupons!

My favorites are the ones mentioned...as DWR and West Elm, you can also try
CB2,
Eurway,
Ikea,
Roomandboard,

and you may get some design ideas at my home other than PS...a forum about modern living...

http://livemodern.com/Members/cfcek2/

The above link may request a login. It is similar to PS...as once a member you just login. But the moderator searches the globe for all things modern. There are blogs broken down to regions, states, cities, areas...so someone who may be your neighbor may have found a hidden source right in you city. So do consider it. I love modern-fussy details get me cranky-you don''t want me cranky!!!

Also, our local Foleys department store recently changed to Macys. And in the change we picked up some fabulous new lines. There is one called hotel suite, or collection, or some fru fru name. They offer the most incredible duvet in sort of a shimmery metal fabric. One is pewter the other is a warm champagne. But they are patterned in blocks, quilted blocks and have numerous accessories in shams, pillows, blankets, sheets...I had just bought and searched the entire city...at regular brick and morters...and was so disappointed to find the perfect thing at a place I least expected it.

Ty Pennington has some cool modern lines at SEARS ~ not kidding. Target has some cheapos too. Walmart had a great line last year in the fall. It was twice as expensive as every thing else...a duvet ran about $100 clams as opposed to the normal $39-$54 price range. I just couldn''t spend it at Wally world.

I will try to find you my favorites link to all bedding...but it is on another CPU. Right now I can''t think of any other stores. Please post what you decide to go with. I am excited for you!

I think the Bamboo Flowers by Calvin Klien; it is beautiful. A friend of mine has it and I love the clean lines. You should get it!!!

I love the last one. I love Macy''s and Dillard''s (not sure if you have a Dillard''s). I need new bedding too. Happy shopping

I've been eyeing this set for a couple years now. It used to come in reverse ... choc. w/ cream design *swoon*. This site has other designers too ... Also love the Garnet Hill catalog/site ... there are even some modern Denise Schmidt quilts. Yum.

ETA: Here's the one I REALLY REALLY love ... though others have knocked it off since ... including Ikea ...

Try PotteryBarn Teen; they''ve got lots of blues and greens and while some of the prints are pretty funky, there''s plenty that would work for an adult bedroom.

My first two thoughts were cb2 and west elm, which I see have already been suggested. But don''t forget overstock - it can be hard to judge colors, but you can get a great deal if they happen to have what you''re looking for.

Also, I''ve never had the energy/creativity for it, but I always thought it would be fun to have a really simple duvet and accessorize with crazy, colorful pillows.

We buy all our duvet covers (and the actual duvets) at IKEA. All the covers are 100% cotton and feel so good that it is hard to get out of bed!

Thank you all!!
Deco, I love that one you posted with the tree. Yum! I'm not sure how it would look in my bedroom, which I should have mentioned, has cherry craftsman furtniture.
Skippy, you are quite welcome for the compliment and I mean it! I love the second link you posted! (The CK summer meadow.) I really like it!
Emeraldlover, thanks for the tip about Macys hotel collection! I was there the other day and I did see some nice bedding. They also have a new martha stewart line that I really liked, even though I'm not a fan of martha.
Lumpkin, thanks for mentioning resto! That's one of my favorite stores and I like many of their choices.
Maria, good to know about pb! I will check that out!
DKS, thanks for the great ideas! I will definitely check out that other forum. I REALLY like Room and Board, and when I used to live near one, I went there all the time for ideas. Unfortunately I'm not near one now and their bedding online was very limited, but I will check out those other places you mentioned. I had forgotten about CB2. They have neat things!
Bigdiamonds, I love overstock too. I didn't see what I was looking for, but I will check them out for sheets if I need any to match the new set.
Lesley, I'm glad you've had good luck with IKEA! I had one from there a few years ago which I really liked. Unfortunately I don't live near one of their stores anymore.

Right now the favorite among me and DH is this one:
http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod1154093&navCount=3
in either blue or green with the brown accent. It's quite pricey, though, so I'm still checking out the other options.
THanks again everyone! Such savvy shoppers and great ideas on this forum!

Holy macaroni, I love it! I really do; I want it too!

How beautiful is that!!!!!

Oooo, nice choice. It has very modern, clean lines but transitional enough to go with several styles. I know what you mean about the expense. They sometimes have some pretty good sales.

I love that store itself -- the colors, the architecture and the furnishings. For several years we''ve been going in and I''ve been saying, "Wouldn''t this be a great color for our bedroom?" So we finally did it -- we did silver sage and painted all the trim white. It''s good paint, BTW.

Have fun choosing!

I love your favorite you just posted...especially in the green and brown! That is to die for!

Thank you all for the positive feedback everyone! We are pretty sure we are going to get it, in the green! Lumpkin, you painted your room silver sage?! I love that color! We actually just ordered curtains for our living room in silver sage from there. We were very lucky, the style we liked was on a great sale. Glad to know their paint is good too in case we do some painting! I really like the style of that store. Their prices are high, but I do feel that the quality is very good. I love the way that they combine craftsman and modern style, because DH loves craftsman and I love modern, so we strive to strike that balance in our home too.

Skippy, I''m really glad you like it! I''m so sorry about the pendant pics by the way. I will deliver sometime. I did take some, but they came out AWFUL! I never knew I had a double chin until those pics LOL. Life has been busy but I will definitely get a thread going before too long.

I doubt you have a double chin Miss Runner. hehehe Okay, I am looking forward to the pics

You''re sweet - but let me assure you, at least in those pics, it was there, plain as day!

I think you''ll like it. If not, you can return it. The sales people are so helpful and friendly at our RH.

I''m almost done painting. I finally got the dressing area painted with the silver sage, but I have to put a second coat of white on the cabinets and hubby is going to install the crown moulding and base trim tomorrow night. We did our bedroom, dressing area and little shower bath in the silver sage. When we get the finishing touches on it I''ll post some pictures so you can get an idea of what the color looks like in that context. I just love it. It can be very sophisticated or very cottage or country, depending on how you dress the windows and bed. The bedding you chose seems sophisticated to me, and I like those clean lines! Are you going to get curtains to match your bedding as well?

Thanks again everyone for the ideas!
Tonight, in a flurry of shopping, we hit Bed Bath and Beyond and purchased a nautica set. I will try to include the pic. We really like it! We like it about 90% as well as the Restoration Hardware one that I posted before and it cost quite a bit less. We were willing to splurge for the Resto one, but then we got to talking about how hard it will be to boot the dogs from the bed, and how we can''t let our dogs sleep on bedding that cost as much as the restoration hardware set does!

Anyway, so we''re really happy with this, the colors look great in our room, and if we get tired of it in a few years, we haven''t spent a fortune. What do you all think?

ok, second attempt to post the pic... NICE! It came out a good size!
We bought all of the components that are in the pic. I think it is casual, but fun and modern/comfy all at the same time. What do you all think?

I love it Gail! I love the color combination and the pattern as well. I wanted to chime in on this thread when you first started it, but did not have any good suggestions that hadn''t already been offered. When you mentioned that you liked greens, I immediately thought of the duvet cover we had on our bed for the first couple years we lived in this house...it was a Marshall Fields private label, though, and long gone even from ebay, but it included some beautiful greens mixed with the slightest bit of aqua blue and some browns and ivories. But I have to admit, I love the one you chose even more! It is definitely modern and clean looking, and again, I love the combo of brown and blue. Bravo!! Here''s to a great night''s sleep on brand new bedding!

It looks great, Gail. The combo of the blue and brown is very RHish, too, so really, you got the look for a lot less. We don''t use expensive bedding, either, because it just has to be machine washable and dryable. We''re dirty people, I guess! Anyway, I think you did really well. Enjoy!

West Elm is very modern!!!
