Where to engrave message on ER?

My custom ER is getting to the final stage in the process and should be set in the mold this coming week. The ring will be a flattened european shank shown in the renderings. I'm not sure if I should engrave on the inside (hidden when worn) or on the outside bottom flatten circumference. Also I was thinking of getting our initials engraved on the 4 bottom pointed corners sides of the euro shank. Thoughts?

I vote for inside and I think a message would be better than initials, if there is a choice between the two.

ditto

just seems more intimate and personal - a private message that only your fiance can read!

Traditionally engraving is done on the inside of the wedding bands rather than the e-ring. But of course, you can do anything you want!

It seems safer to engrave the inside, on the outside it may disappear with time...

I didn't know that. I learn something new, especially about diamonds/jewelry recently, everyday! But hey, I still may break the tradition.

If you do decide to break with tradition you should consider that if you engrave the outside of the ring, fine scratches and wear can cause the engraving to wear away over time, a platinum ring will need to be polished over time if your fiancee doesn't like the patina, and that too can erase away your sentiments. If the ring is 18 kt it will need to be re-rhodium plated as well, and I'm not sure if this process will fill in the engraving causing it to disappear...someone here will know though.

Your ring is beautiful, congratulations!

My DH and I have engraving inside our wedding bands and you can still see what is written, but its definitely showing signs of wear - and that's inside. I don't imagine a phrase or initials would last very long if on the corners or exterior of the ring.

Ours are almost 27 years old (June), btw.
