Looking to get a nice .60-1.0ct OEC stone for a pendant for my fiance. I'm trying not to spend more than $700-800 on the stone. I'm not opposed to sourcing a ring and pulling the diamond off that. Any ideas?

Check Diamond Bistro -

This particular vendor looks good. They have a 14 day return policy as well, so you have plenty of time to get it checked out. Just to make sure there aren't any bad chips. I see some inclusions in the last pics, but they don't look that bad, and should only be barely visible in person.

I'd take the risk. Then again, I've taken some huge risks in the past!

was looking at those stones. they do look nice. maybe i will contact her.

Of the stones posted, I really like Gypsy's because it looks pretty round which I would prefer for a pendant.

One thing you really need to pay close attention to is the diameter measurements. These old cuts often face up small because many are cut deep. For example, Gypsy states that her stone is .82 and has a diameter of 5.6mm. That equates roughly to a .60ish well cut modern round brilliant. I would not buy an ebay stone (or any stone) without getting the diameter measurements. And I would buy one that appears round unless you are specifically wanting an oval, which is certainly personal preference.

thanks diamondseeker and thanks everyone else. my fiance's birthday is at the end of september, so i dont have a ton of time to find the perfect, budget conscious stone.

i just want something with fire and some presence. i spent a ton of time finding the perfect stone for her ering but dont have that luxury. i love the look of an OEC with a milgrained thin bezel. i dont want to spend more than $1200 or 1300 on the entire thing, so it is a little difficult finding an OEC stone >0.50ct (id like it closer to 0.80ct if possible).

keep the suggestions coming!

Who are you having make / set the stone? How much are they charging for the setting?

Keep in mind there may be additional fees to set a stone that was not purchased from a particular jeweler. For instance, I asked about the BGD Barbara milgrain - if I have them set an outside stone (i.e. not one of theirs) they require you to have insurance on that stone during the setting process as well as a $95 fee for setting an outside stone and they won't pay for shipping on the portion of the pendant that is the stone itself. Just things to keep in mind -

I think your budget is pretty tight and I don't see a 0.8ct stone in a bezel for that price.

im having my jeweler who made my engagement ring (dimend scaasi in chicago). they will make the setting with my stone for $400 (it is 14k white gold).

.80 is ideal but would be fine with a .5 or .6ct stone that faces up large.

Old cut prices have gone up quite a bit in the past few months. There aren't a whole lot of good oecs in the ebay market, and the good ones aren't cheap. You might get a 0.60 in your budget, but I don't forsee a .80. I'm sorry.

my setting will be $450. just spoke with my jeweler. so, i am going to set my budget for the stone at a max of $900. the ebay listing you listed fortekitty was $700. im not sure i want that stone yet, but .76ct for $700 would def work for me.

It's starting at $700, but now that it's been posted here, who knows how high it'll end up. There are a lot of lurkers and many PSers have had an auction sniped. Personally, with a $900 budget, I'd buy something directly from one of the gals on this forum.

double post

I'm pretty sure that GOG diamond isn't a european cut. Wonder if it's mis-labeled?

Congratulations! I hope it turns out to be a winner!
