hello all!

this is my first post on PS, so please excuse my naivete. i am BRAND NEW to the diamond arena, and i started by going to Shane Co, as well as some other B&M''s. at Shane, my girlfriend found a band that she loved for $900. the diamond that they showed me was .80ct, SI1, I, princess cut, and the price was in the $2800 range (for the diamond).

my dilemma is that the band seems perfect for my girlfriend, and i want to get the best diamond that she wants (.80-.90ct, G-I, VS2-SI1, princess cut) at a total price range of around $3500 (so $2600 for the diamond). i have been thinking about buying a diamond online, and then taking it with the band for someone to set. i obviously would want everything to run smoothly, but it seems a bit messy buying from 2 different places, and then paying for someone to set the ring.

i also don''t know if my price range is unrealistic given the requirements and price of the band. i will spend some time looking at price quotes on here, and i would also appreciate any thoughts, suggestions, or comments!

thank you for reading!

Hello!

Here's a .84 G SI2 from Good Old Gold--a great vendor. It's an SI2, so I'd call to see if it's eyeclean, for sure. It's in your price range, and GOG hand selects their diamonds for maximum brilliance.

Here's a .71 H VS2 ACA Princess from Whiteflash. It's a bit smaller, but it's a beautiful "A Cut Above" branded stone that will have maximum sparkle.

You can search through the above sites, and there is also James Allen and Engagement Rings Direct among others.

Many people buy their stone separately and have another vendor set it. You'll get the best value online.

Hope this helps! Good luck in your search!

I can highly recommend the ACA diamonds, in fact I would have gone slightly smaller to get one!

ditto, ACA stones are incredible.

It''s easiest and safest to have the same place set the stone where you purchased the stone from. Do you have any pictures of the setting she liked? Maybe we can find a similar one and WF can set your stone into it.

wow! all great suggestions. i just might have to look into getting ACA princess cut. as far as the band, it was exclusive to the store...so i do not have any pictures.

i talked to my girlfriend since my post, and she loved the shaneco diamond that i mentioned above. i would still be open to purchasing a ring online...but the priority is getting a ring that she loves.

i feel better

thank you for your suggestions!
