Where is the best place to sell old diamond jewelry

I want to trade all my old stuff in and upgrade. :)

Define best.

If best means fast to you then sell it to a local jeweler or pawnshop for whatever they'll give you.
This will get you the least money.

If best means max money you want to sell directly to the customer.
Craigslist is free.
This will probably take a long time and involve security concerns when you meet the stranger.
eBay isn't free but reaches the world.

In this situation GIA or AGS reports are your friends.
If your diamond is valuable and the report is old consider getting a new one.
Professional appraisers may be helpful too.

First please get an appraisal from an independant appraiser in your area. Ask them what would be a good selling price for your pieces. Also ask them who you might sell your jewlelry too. You will most likely get a recommendation. Or ask them if they know of anyone who might take them on consigment. You will find online consigment sites if you research this. Old diamonds (such as mine cuts, ect ) sell very well on ebay. But only expect to get about 30 to 50% of the appraised value, which is the same just about everywhere. NEVER sell them at a pawn shop! Pawn shops are doing extremely well with loans and buying then selling gold. They do not need diamonds or jewelry and it is such a small part of their business. They will give you pennies on the dollar.

Check out other forums that have classifieds. Truly the best way to sell is to have your diamond loose and appraised. For some reason it has been my observations that say a .75 carat loose diamond sells much quicker then the same diamond in a ring or pendant. Second hand jewelry shops are usually just interested in diamonds over a carat. They have a glut of diamonds under a carat and usually are not interested in buying. Craiglist is basically a bust. Really. You will most likely get about a dozen scammers from Zambodia asking you to ship to them. Very annoying.

Good luck.

If you are a newbie, forget ebay. You will attract every scammer in the world. And pretty soon ebay will be introducing a new policy where a buyer can claim something is wrong, ask for a partial refund, and ebay will give it to them. No need to send the item back for verification. Just press a button. Sort of like name your own price.

Ebay is now referred to as a" buyers paradise" and is no longer a safe place to sell expensive jewelry.

Interested to read these answers! I too need to sell some jewelry... For some reason, I don't get much activity on Diamond Bistro... Ebay has worked in the past for me but the new policy could be horrible! I've only been scammed once when selling - sold an antique platinum band and the buyer claimed it was a fraction of the weight I said it was, but refused to return it! Would only settle for me refunding him half the money or suffer a report to ebay... he threatened my 100% feedback rating... ugh! Still makes me sick to think about it.

Forget Craigslist. Such a shame it's populated by the scammers of the world.

I also am trying to sell a diamond ring. I went to a few of the local jewelers in my area who were advertising they buy diamonds. They literally offered me pennies on the dollar.

I willl no longer sell on ebay. And diamondbistro does not seem to get much traffic. I am afraid to try craigslist. I wonder how good that I do but now I don't (something like that) website is?
