Hello everyone! I went to some jewelery stores today and although I loooved the settings I tried on, I am suffering from sticker shock lol! I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on how much settings should cost, and if I should go local or have one of the online vendors, like WF, do a custom job. I am hoping to purchase an ACA or a BGD Signature 1 carat stone in the next few months, and want it to go in a Cushion-Shaped Halo with pave diamonds down the shank. I looked at one today that I liked from Gottlieb & Sons...and they were wanting $2300 for the setting which was in 14k WG! Is that standard pricing for white gold? Maybe I am just from a small town where everyone gets their rings from the mall, but I feel like that is too much for just a wg setting...maybe I am wrong though. I do not need "designer", I just want simple, clean lines, and something for under 2k if possible. My only fear of having the vendor where I purchase the stone make the ring is that one of the pave would get knocked out, and then I''d be very far away from them to deal with it. I know I''ll have to be careful with the pave, but I would just hate to have to walk around with missing diamonds and no way to fix them fast! So that''s why I was thinking local, but apparantly designers do not like my budget hehe... I''d appreciate the comments--thanks!

check out Pearlmans for a ton of designer settings with pricing. that will give you an idea of what they are costing. I''d recommend checking out the Beverley K line. lots of pave halo''s to look at and an excellent price for the quality. Not all pave is created equal so you''ll want to find a reputable vendor/designer which will increase the odds of the ring not loosing a bunch of stones. But any pave ring has the potential to lose a stone.

I found one that I really like from Beverly K, but I went to their website and I don''t see where it says where their dealers are located. Does anyone know where I can find that info? I''d like to try one on!

you may just have to email them to see if there is a retailer in your area. If there isn''t, pearlmans will send out rings on memo so you could always go that route in order to see it in person.

I just emailed them...what does "on memo" mean though?

It means they hold an amount on your CC (but don''t charge it) and then send you a sample to try and look at! If you send it back to them safe and sound, then they don''t charge your CC. If you keep it, they charge you. It would be set with a CZ, not a diamond.

Oooo, thanks Dreamer! Hmm, well if there is not a dealer near me that is what I will do then. Here is the setting I like: http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/beverley-k-jewelry/rings/116PP1/

However, I don''t know if I am crazy about the milgrain. *Sigh* I always manage to pick apart settings, which is probably a sign that I should go custom. I really like the Grace setting too, but without the milgrain. The beverly k price is really nice too....

BK will make it without milgrain. They do customizations like that for no extra charge, at least that''s what I was told when I was looking into a BK ring last year. Each ring is handmade just for your order, so you can tweak them! Lots of PSers have been very happy with BK and with Pearlman''s. Try calling them tomorrow. They are super nice and I personally have found it much easier to have a 10 minute conversation than exchange 10 e-mails, KWIM?

The price is right....maybe a little high. I have a knife edged split shank halo with lots of pave and it was a few hundred more than your quote. Pave is very labor intensive and you are primarily paying for the labor, and as others have said, you get what you pay for. Not all pave is created equal and you don''t want to be loosing stones all the time.

If you want a custom creation give Lesley a call at BGD. They do awesome custom work and an excellent job with pave. Oh yeah...and the customer service rocks.

If its still to steep, Bev K from Pearlmans is the way to go.
