Short version: If your ring had to be shipped to you, do you always ship it back for checkups? Do jewelers do ''checkups'' on pieces they didn''t make/sell?

Long version: My ering is a WF creation, my WB is a stock piece also from WF. Last week one of the stones from my WB fell out, so since I have to send it back anyway, I figured I''d send both rings back, since I''ve been wearing my ering for a year. But does it matter? Could I take it elsewhere? It would probably void my warranty though...

I''m trying to save $40 here.

Thoughts? TIA.

I sent mine back to WF for repairs. Suck up the $$$ for the warranty.

I am sorry a stone fell out. I found it a bit traumatic - silly but true.

Hi,

I''d sent it back to WF since you purchased it there.

My eng ring is from a local shop, so I take it in there. I would be nervous to send stuff through the mail unless something similar happened where a stone fell out.

Thanks Steel and MC. Obviously the $40 isn''t the only thing keeping me from sending my perfectly fine ering back. I''m just scared to put it in the mail again! But I definitely don''t want to risk the warranty being voided, so I''ll just do it.

Steel, it is traumatic! It looks like a gap tooth staring back at me. I''ve only been wearing it a month too, so it''s doubly sad.

Do you have any specific reason for mailing it back? Unless you do, then it may not be worth the risk. I didn''t post this before, but if I were you, I''d pay extra to have them mailed seperately, just in case something happened.

No specific reason, just to make sure nothing is loose. Is that not normal?

I have a similar problem too, I got my e-ring in NY, but I live in Boston. for general checking of prongs etc I know of a jeweler who does that as a service downtown so I go to him to check prongs/polish etc.

If one of my stones fell out! I would just send it to the designer where I bought the ring from so that it doesn''t void the warranty. although the idea of putting my ring in the mail even with insurance makes me feel nervous!

I take mine where I bought the ring. I know that these online vendors do wonderful work, but that was the major reason I didn''t do it and went to a B&M store so that if I wanted it checked I could take it there show them the problem and check it again when I picked it up to make sure nothing funny went on before I take receipt of it. I have a lifetime warranty and take it in every six months. Id never have it any other way.

Since yours was shipped to you it seems that you have no choice, but to send it back through the mail. If it were me I would ask them if there is any actual location that you could take it to that they have a relationship with so you dont void your warranty or have to mail it.
