Now that I''m getting more jewelry that is actually worth something, I''m starting to wonder where I should keep it. I know a safety deposit box is probably the safest, but I really don''t want to have go there every time I want to wear a pair of earrings. But at the same time, keeping things in a jewelry box on my dresser seems like the FIRST place theives would look. Of course I know I should have it insured, but insurance won''t replace exactly what I have now. My grandmother used to keep her stuff in a can buried in cannisters of sugar and flour....Ideas anyone?

I keep mine in the cardboard bacardi box I got from the liquor store that I used to pack all my dresser stuff in when we moved. Its all in taht box in a nice wooden box on a shelf in my closet.

I have a chrystal ring holder that''s on my bedside table. When I get home I take them off and put them on the ring holder. Other rings, like RHR''s I put in separate zipped jewelry satin pouches, and they are locked in my bureau.

I keep mine in my beach bag.

No, I''m kidding...I keep mine on a crystal ring holder downstairs and on top of my jewelry box or on top of a container in the bathroom. I figure that if we get our house broken into, I''m in trouble.

When Im sleeping I have my ring in the ring box next to my bed right next to my cell phone. I think if someone snuck in to steal it they have bigger problems than what Ill do to them when they touch it.

I keep a ring box next to my bed, and the rest in their own boxes within a big cardboard box. Hidden in a closet. I want to get a nice jewelry box at some point.

If you''re concerned about theft but don''t want to go to a safety deposit box, consider one of those small "home safe/fireproof boxes" for your valuables...mine looks like a book...but when you open it it''s a little locked metal box. So on the bookshelf, you''d never find it.

I am going to have some small boxes for my e-ring and wedding ring for by my bed, bathroom and kitchen...but not sure what I should do with the other jewelry....

My jewelry is stored in little boxes in different places around the house. My husband gave me a huge jewelry box for Christmas, but I''m afraid this is way too obvious if our house is broken into, so I''m storing other things like candles and trinkets in this box.

Mine too!

I have a tall jewelry armoire that I keep most of my jewelry in on an everyday basis. When we go away I have several small fireproof safes that are in different areas of the house.

Id have thought you kept them in the washer or dryer.

No, silly!

That''s how I CLEAN them.

I keep everything in my big fancy jewelry box on the bed-side table, so if we get broken into I''m screwed!!!

I thought you might find it funny that when my parents travel they keep jewelry & momentos that don''t fit in the fire-safe in the kitty litter bucket!!!

and when I got my first fancy jewerly box from my ex, he gave it to me with the engravable plate blank. when I asked him what I should get engraved on it he said "dust me"!!! its still blank with the protective green plastic on it 13 years later.....

Yep I also admit to beside the bed thing, but to be really honest...if we were broken into, the last thing I would be worrying about would be my jewelry....mostly because the most important pieces to me, my rings, are only ever off my finger at night while I am sleeping. So if we had a break in during the day, I'd have them with me. If we had a break in at night, we'd have bigger problems than my jewelry since we'd be in the house!!

My girlfriend got me a beautiful Tiffany Limoges China box for my wedding shower so I keep all my daily pieces in there on my bedside table. The rest are usually in boxes in the drawers of the bedside table, but again ... my rings are probably the most valuable and would be hardest to replace.

Why not in the bag of your hoover ?

See I am trying to get a concealed carry permit so I can have a firearm. I doubt Id carry it, Id probably keep it in the house beside my bed with like 2 bullets in it in case someone broke in so I could cock the gun. The sound of that would probably do the trick if someone came near us in the room. Id probably not shoot anyone. I don''t want to be sued by the moron who broke in.

My jewelry is (stupidly) in a safe deposit box in the bank. I tried keeping it at home with the important pieces insured, but it was so expensive that I could have bought a large diamond ring with what I spent on it over a few years! Now it is insured so that I have to tell the company when I plan to take it out and wear it...which I don''t bother to do. The dog would badly damage anyone who tried to break in (unless the burglar had a gun and was prepared to use it). I still don''t think the jewelry needs to be in the house, though.

I just have a monitored security system. Otherwise I don''t sweat it, it''s in jewelry box and armoire. It can all be replaced. It''s just stuff. Our safety is more important. That said, most thieves break in when they know no one is home like when you''re at work or on vacation. That''s why we get neighbors to get our paper and mail when we travel. One thing not recommended by security specialists is stopping your mail or papers. Paper delivery person could be casing or informing. Not being paranoid, just aware of possibilities.

A hidden safe. Not tellin'' where

We have a monitored security system, too but I know that''s not enough to protect my stuff. Some monitoring systems can be bypassed by a simple magnet. Like Mara, I too only take off my important jewelry pieces (e-ring, pendant) during sleep and showering so a break in would have to happen when I have my stuff off. I have a jewelry case that I have hidden in a secret place. We''re looking into getting a very heavy, fireproof safe to bolt down so no one can carry it away. I have a patient who was burgarlized recently who had a heavy safe in her closet, but it wasn''t bolted down. The thieves just dragged out the safe and gouged her hardwood floors in the process. All her jewelry, much cash, and other valuables were in that safe. Sadly, she was completely wiped out.

We have a built in (bolted) hidden wall safe.
