Hi,
I am on wondering where can you buy really small diamonds? I want to start looking at a project, but want to do some of the diamond sourcing mysel. Blue Nile and the like start at about .25 ct, and I am looking for sizes of .10 ct and below.

I know there are some for sale on loupe troop, But just not what I am looking for.

Thanks.

What mm (or mms), color, clarity, cut-quality and quantity are you seeking?

HI Diamond Baby,

Have you tried asking whoever will be doing the jewelry work?

There are surely pieces that take a "straight size" yet others may require specialized calibrations.
We do a lot of pave items, and in general, ordering the melee is a PITA:)
So you may want to farm out the task.

If you are going to buy the stones yourself make sure you do have the accurate mm sizes.
Also remember that you'll need to trust the supplier- there won;t be GIA reports on the stones.

Hi John,

I am completely new to this, so round brilliant for the cut. I relation to clarity, size etc, I don't know what way they come. I have a 1.13 ct centre surrounded by 10 x .1ct diamonds, all round brilliant cut. It's not a halo, in the traditional sense, but looks more like the earring jackets that a few of the PS'ers have. I want to get a diamond band to match, so it's either go with the .1ct stones again, or go smaller, .05ct.

I'm really not sure what to go with.
Thanks

Hi Rockdiamond,
Thanks for the reply. I am looking for a diamond band to go with the ring, the details are in the previous post, I will have to try to post a picture. My Mac won't let me upload photos for some reason. The diamonds around the centre stone are .10 ct, so it's either a ring with stones that size or going down to .05ct for each stone.

Just so I have an idea, what size stones usually go into the pave/melee parts of the band.

Thanks.

Hi DiamondBaby,

I would recommend that you speak to a jeweler first and talk about the ring design and be 1000% positive about the diamond sizes.
Usually, diamond sizes are actually selected after the metal work of a ring is complete. Unless it's a straightforward design or something. The best way a design comes out IMHO is when the jeweler selects the stones that best fits a design. Sometimes, when you start out with melee sizes, the designer has very little to no flexibility in the design and the design might actually have come out better if they had that flexiblity. Just my 2c.

My Best,

Absolutely have the ringmaker source your stones for the band. I can see no advantage to trying to do that yourself since they can buy at wholesale and you'd buy at retail. Some of the best ringmakers won't even accept a project when they are not supplying the small stones.

In addition, diamond bands are so common that you wouldn't even have to have one custom made.

Hi Victor,
Thanks for the advice. I managed to put up some photos, I wear the ring with two platinum bands, so I am looking for something fairly neat. I had two channel set eternity rings that I used to wear with it before I changed the setting, but they just don't go anymore. I love it as is, but I am on the hunt for my next project!!

Thanks.

I think Diamondseeker and the others have provided good advice. A trusted expert on your side, looking out for your interests, will be paramount.
