I don''t even know what it''s called! You know, the little springloaded ring that clamps onto a stone so that you can try it on. Like the one holding the spinel here:

What is it called and where can I buy one cheaply?

Not sure what it''s called, but I know that Barry Bridgestock knows. I imagine you can get them on ebay, or from gemstone supply stores.

However, I would warn you that gemstones have gotten chipped from those before. So if you''re going to use them, I would use extreme caution.

Thanks!

Another one here who cautions their usage. I think there is a different type (a couple wires on a "stick") that is a stone holder which applies less pressure if you don''t feel comfortable handling tweezers.

Correct,
The stick ones apply less pressure, but you still need to exercise caution with those as well, since the stone can easily pop out of it.
