an excellent cut stone and a poorly cut stone side by side? I''m trying to explain the difference to someone, but I think a picture would explain it better. Is there anywhere on this forum or another site where these 2 stones can be seen together? TIA!!

Hi Sarah, in the advanced tutorial is a picture of good symmetry next to an AGS ideal stone. http://diamonds.pricescope.com/symm.asp

That''s an interesting question, Sarah. I have actually been wondering about it myself. It may be difficult to show the difference in a photo, though, as the cut affects the sparkle so much. Maybe Good Old Gold has some video on their website that has them on a tray that Jon is moving back and forth. I remember seeing him show a branded cut that way.

There's a really good picture that Garry has of two CZs, one that is super leaky vs. a nice one on a black background. It is a bit of an extreme example, perhaps.

Can't find it, though.

Thanks everyone! :)

There is a video on GOG that compares a larger, less well cut diamond to a smaller ideal cut diamond here. Hope that helps!

Here you go! In the top right you can see a photo comparing a well-cut 0.84ct diamond on the left, with a poorly cut 1.00ct diamond on the right (the thing in the middle is a piece of rough diamond). The picture also explains how, ironically, you would pay more for the smaller-looking, duller 1.00 carat diamond, simply because of its extra weight. Hope this helps! x x x

Sarah~

This is a pretty blurry pic, and it''s kinda comparing apples to oranges, but here ya go:

This pic shows my old studs which were bought at a "maul" jeweler, next to my new studs from Whiteflash. The old studs are 1 ctw round brilliants, I color, I2 clarity. The new studs are 1.44 ctw princess cuts, H color, SI1 clarity (eye clean). As you can see (even in this blurry pic), the princess cuts are MUCH sparklier than the round brilliants, which look kinda dark when compared to the princess cuts. Hope this helps!
