Do you ever wonder where your facination with diamonds came from? Do you have a theory?

I was researching something unrelated for a class project, stumbled on to this little forum from google.. And stuck around.

I blame 100% of it on PS!!!!

My grandmother and my mom are really into jewelry. I''m continuing the tradition. I stumbled across here when my bf and I started talking about engagement rings.

My grandmother was a jeweler. So my fixation started young. When my husband and I got engaged she gave us a wedding set she designed. It even has the US patten number on the inside. The really cool thing is that both rings fit us like they were made for us even though she made them the year I was born. They are to special to me for us to wear (that and they are yellow gold).

I know it must be genetic to be a DIAMOND lover my two year old went with me to the jewelry store the other day and she was able to pick out "mommy''s ring" in a case that has at least 75 rings in it. Her future hubby is in SOOOO much trouble.

PS I am so glad to have found this site so I can be with others who have the same DIAMOND craziness as me.

I started lurking in 2007 after I knew I didn''t actually like my engagement ring (sorry honey!)

It became frustrating because I had been browsing a lot of stores and everything looked the same, kind of blah, not my style.

And then I found PS. I liked that people were more brave with their choices here. People had colored stones in their rings, unusual diamond cuts, halos, really cool wedding band and ering styles.

Of course now I''m obsessed and penniless, but what can you do.

Started lurking way back in ''07, when engagement first came up. Came in knowing absolutely nothing except that I wanted three stones... this place is addictive

Mine started the day after I got engaged. Never had a CLUE or the slightest interest in jewelry until then! Seriously, all my jewelry was silver and I just didn''t understand why anyone would spend money on "jewels".

Then, enter my ring.

Thank goodness my husband became educated before getting my diamond! Once he handed me the certification, I was a changed woman. I read over that thing with a fine tooth comb, fascinated by it and wanting to know more about what all the numbers meant.

PS was the perfect drug for the fix I sought!

I was born with it. My mother once told me that when I was a baby I would stare at icicles for hours. It was a natural progression from icicles to diamonds.

I''m a magpie who likes to collect shiny things? Ooooo! Sparrrrrrrrrkly!

I didn''t have much real jewelry to speak of until about 2001, then all heck broke loose for some reason. PS has NOT helped keep the addicition at bay.

My mom had a diamond solitaire ring that I''ve had my eye on since I was a little girl. It''s now that same diamond that I have in my engagement ring!

my jewelry fixation started at a very young age. my mother says that even as a baby, i would fixate on shiny sparkly things. BF says i''m like a raccoon.

i think it may be inherited as well since my mother is a jeweler, and i would happily tag along with her to gem shows as a kid. i don''t remember this, but my mom apparently got a discount from a vendor because i properly named a selection of gemstones.

my mom pities my BF...

From my dad...He always loved diamonds and he has been..."studying" them for sooooo many years...I always remember him being interested in diamonds and other precious stones, especially blue sapphires...He is also wearing a diamond ring.
All his love for diamonds and jewellry in general had two results: 1. My mom (who doesn''t care AT ALL about jewellry) has a HUGE collection of gorgeous pieces (which i should post sometime!), 2. I fell in love with diamonds and i''m crazy about them!!!

Oh...and by the way...great idea for a thread Dreamer (as always!)

when i was looking for a wedding band to go with my ering. i knew a little bit about the 4 c''s, but since my BF (now DH) was getting his grandmother''s ring, there was no use in searching for ring. but i did want to do my part to pick out the wedding band since that was something i didn''t want handed down.

somehow ended up on SMTR through a google search, and didn''t realize there were other forums until i was bored at work one day when someone posted (i think it was whitby) "i''m heading over to the hangout."- HUH? and all was lost. i became addicted not only to all things sparkly, but then also PS in general.

I blame my parents.

My mom would drag me and make me stop at every shop window with jewelry in it. Then starting when I was 11, my dad had a great relationship with a jeweler that did all of my mom''s pieces so we spent a lot of time in their shop. Even now when we''re back in town, we stop in to see them.

Then my mom found PS, and we''d spend hours looking at SMTR and talking about the rings.

I cannot remember a time when I didn''t love sparklie things! I collected crystals when I was little, fell in love with sequins shoes and I even have a crystal studded phone!

Ever since I was a little girl, I would oggle the jeweller''s window and look through jewelry books. I have no idea where this comes from - no one in my family or friends share this mania. I do remember my mother trying to drag me away from jewelry and book stores from a very early age!

Several years back I researched diamonds so I could make an informed purchase for a gift.

Then I got hooked.

I''m loving these responses! As with all things I think it''s a combination of nature and nurture. I got my love of design and eye for art/architecture from my mom''s side of the family. How it morphed into a love of outrageously expesive jewelry is more of a mystery since I was never exposed to it IRL. I remember scanning the NYT magazine section and Sunday paper for pictures of pretty sparklies when I was a kid. Then my dad let me pick out a couple of diamond and sapphire pieces for my mom at a maul store and I was hooked!

Always have been obsessed with jewelry and gems.My mother found the only way to keep me quiet in church as a kid was to hand me her wedding rings.Started at age twelve in the jewelry trade as a runner for a small local jewelry store (who would think a 12 year old would have jewelry in his backpack?!)I learned how to string and make beaded jewelry just after my 12th birthday.By the time I was 15 I had 5 stores that carried only my jewelry in their cases. After school I would spend hour making jewelry and then bring it to the stores.I did all my own work, marketing and self promotion. When I was 21 I started G.I.A.course work.

Mine is mostly with gems - I think from museums I saw in childhood. Where I grew up, diamonds were such a luxury, that I am still slightly afraid to approach this area. But recently PS helped me to find a diamond for someone on a small budget, so maybe it is a good start!

When I was very little (4,5?) I used to ask my g''ma "Grandma, when you die, can I have your diamonds?" She always had lots and lots of diamond rings on :)
When I was 5, in kindergarden, there was a parent open house and my grandma went with. I apparently brought my g''ma over to my teacher and said, "GRANDMA, show Ms. Erikson all of your diamonds!!!"

My parents used to tell me I was adopted some times

and I would imagine what my real family was like. They were royalty and I was a princess.

One of my nicknames was "Princess-Iwanna" (I want this, I wanna do that...)

Exactly the same. My dad was obsessed with diamonds and gemstones and showered my mom with them even though she didn''t have much interest. None of the pieces were huge or worth very much money, but my dad was proud of everything. Both of my parents are gone and I have all my mom''s stuff but feel uncomfortable wearing any of it because it was all so sentimental between the two of them!

I''ve always loved rocks. I collected them when I was little, and had a special love for quartz rocks. I used to take out big colorful books about rocks from the library. My dad built me a little display case for my crystal and rock treasures. When we lived in Florida I used to paint rocks for hours on our back patio.

I suppose diamonds and a jewelry chest are just the grown up version of rocks and a display case, right?

I''ve always liked science, geology, gemology and whatnot since I was little. I met my DH when I was 15 and his parents are HUGE collectors of minerals and jewelry, so it just advanced from there.

I found PS when I started researching who to get my reset made with. And now I''m stuck!

I still have my rock collection, in two glass cabinets in the living room. I don''t remember a time that I wasn''t fascinated by huge diamonds and colored gems. I remember thinking about making enough money to buy a huge emerald cut when I was a kid. Humm, good goal for 40th birthday?

Since I saw a bass boat with a glitter finish....

Nah... I''ve probably loved diamonds since I first noticed the way that my mom''s sparkled. That and the bass boat... just a little bit.

I''ve been fixated on sparkly things since I was a little kid too - my family calls me the magpie :)
I found PS when I first started wanting to get engaged over 2 years ago - just started posting last month - now I''m even more addicted !
