Horizontal.

Vertical people: Do you finish with the top line? I''m confused.

I''m vertical and you''ve got it right! I do the top vertical line and the round part and then I finish it off with the horizontal line up top.
Me too...

horizontal usually, but sometimes I change things up

Horizontal.

horizontal.

Vertical... kind of funny that I never even considered that anyone would ever go horizontal first.

Vertical.

Down, around, and back up for the line across.

Is it me, or is The Daily Question becoming even more random?

Vertical-ish. Wow- this is quite a random question!

DF ,

I would like to know how you write the #5?? And we are all waiting with baited breath to know the meaning behind this random question... LOL!!!

horizontal

My 5 is often mistaken for an S though. The top isn''t curvy, but there''s really no vertical line, more of a diagonal down to a curve.

Vertical.

I''m surprised by all the horizontal responses! I clearly remember in school learning to do the vertical and the curved part, pick up the pencil, and do the horizontal, and I was never one to not do what a teacher told me. Also, we got to change color of pencil each time you had to pick up the pencil, and I liked the 3rd color of pencil best. We also did this with letters, starting with our initials, and I remember coming home from kindergarten crying because my first initial, J, only had 2 colors and I really wanted to use the 3rd.

horizontal - it's not the way I learned it but I'm super lazy lol

Rarely I will write it the other way, if I need it to be super clear or official or something.

read somewhere that "vertical" people have a higher IQ.

I start out vertical bf starts out horizontal and I can say with ease that he whips my a$$ in terms of IQ intelligence. Street and people smarts are my area (though I''m no dummy) but book smart...he is almost on the cusp of being so smart he can''t tie his own shoes.

I was a kindergarten teacher and we taught the kids to go down, around, then put on a top. So vertical.

horizontal!

neither

at an angle

Vertical. Like Sabine, I was taught to do it this way by my first grade teacher. This was "back in the day" when Penmanship was an actual subject on which you were graded. (Back in my day that is; Sabine is younger than me!) "Mr. 5 always puts his hat on last," said Miss Watts. How I loved that woman.

eta: OK Karl, that is just plain wrong. What would Miss Watts say? Your Mr. 5 doesn't even have a hat!

I just asked both of my kids (they are 5 and 7) to try writing #5, and both of them started with the horizontal! Now I''m interested in finding out where that came from? My answer was vertical. Dh is coming home from a business trip tonight....he''s going to get an interesting welcome when he comes through the door. I''m going to make him write me a 5!!!!!!!

This is THE most random question, DF. *I* hadn't even thought of it and I have a LOT of random thoughts floating around in my head.

I usually write the vertical line first, then the backwards C , then go up and make top of the 5 from left to right. To be exact. This is how I teach my kids (students) too.

vertical.

Vertical, then a rounded swoop. Then I top it off with a horizontal line.

Hehe, things haven''t changed too much then, that exactly how we teach it...even have a song with it.

So if I wanted to learn the "proper way" of writing numbers and letters, where would I look?

Ok, did you actually read this somewhere, or is this one of those DF made-up statistic things?

I am a "horizontal" person, but I also have a very high IQ ("genius" level or whatever ..)
