Over 35 years ago I saw in an antique store a piece of Art Nouveau English porcelain by William Moorcroft and it stole my heart.
Back then as a penniless student I could only ogle through the glass of the cabinet, priced in the thousands it was.
Sigh.
The decades pass and I buy lots of porcelain pieces at auction but a piece of Moonlit Blue is rare to come across, in fact, in 35 years of regular auction attendance, not a piece of Moonlit Blue has been there for me.
Until today.
A large bowl AND a sugar bowl up for auction.
OMG, I felt quite sick waiting for lot number 72. I know 2 years ago a vase went for $7,200 in Melbourne, there’s a few small pieces on eBay, $5,000 plus. Hubby says $4,000 max. As if I’m thinking. As if.
Well....
My patience was rewarded, I acquired my first (and second) piece of Moorcroft 1925 Moonlit Blue and I’m over the moon (ha ha).
So worth the wait.

Gorgeous piece! You have been very patient in your quest. I love Moorcroft too (and Clarice Cliff) and have a small collection in the Pomegranate design.

I don’t know if you plan on expanding your collection, or how easy overseas delivery is, but this guy is a great seller who often has interesting things,

How wonderful and it's so true, that which is meant for you won't pass you by, it's a stunning piece!

How beautiful. Congratulations on your find, it’s really gorgeous.

Ah yes.
He specialises in Clarice Cliff. I have a modest collection of CC myself, but my first love is actually Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre.
Eye watering prices, I have 7 pieces and that constitutes a good collection!
I am now hesitant to purchase Internationally after an irreplaceable piece of porcelain was “inspected by Customs”, unwrapped and just stuffed back in the box to arrive in multiple pieces.
Gutted isn’t a strong enough word.
Yes insured, but it didn’t ease the pain as it’s not as if I could find another to buy.

Beautiful - how exciting to acquire something you've longed to have for so long! It is really pretty and the color is just stunning!

I had never heard of the Wedgwood before- wow, those pieces are beautiful! Sorry to hear about your delivery experience, I can see why you wouldn’t want to repeat it!

Beautiful and I love the colors. Congratulations on finding and acquiring this treasure.

Yay! Great story, awesome piece.
More photos, please!

wow - what a beauty, congrats!

Gorgeous. I love Moorcraft and have 4 or 5 small insignificant pieces.

Congratulations! I'm glad it finally happened for you!

Congratulations! How exciting :)

How lovely! Congrats on your find.

Hi,

Your piece is beautiful. I was thinking today how I could share my joy at buying something I never thought I would have, and you have just posed the right topic. I just purchased handmade crystal Waterford beverage glasses. I am expecting balloon wine glasses today as well. I inspected them this morning and gazed at my new treasure. Yes, the price was right, and I'm as happy as a song bird.

Hope you find more. It really is beautiful. I can't take pictures so I hope you can use your imagination.

Annette

That is gorgeous, as are all the Moorcroft pieces! The Wedgwood is out of this world, too! You have beautiful taste!

It’s just a joy isn’t it when you come across your “object of desire” AND you can afford to take it home and love it forever.
