Not one person has mentioned BOOZE? Come on, people, stop holding back. LOL

Seriously, though, exercise is an awesome way for me to de-stress...I probably don't do it often enough, but about a 2 mile walk at a good clip of 3-3.5 mph really seems to reduce my stress level. Other than that, a few glasses of something alcoholic also does the trick. Oh, also sex. If only I were having it.

ETA: my bad, I see Elrohwen stepped up to the booze plate. Hee hee.
No one reads my posts, do they?

Did you "say" something, Ellen?

Maybe it's just that some don't think Bud Light officially counts as booze. (I don't, but then again, I don't drink beer at all)

Also, Lorelei, soocool or haven, if any of you are ever in my area, remind me to get you stressed out. My house needs a good cleaning.

I saw your post Ellen but I was thinking if I drank while stressed and it was someone causing me the stress, I would call them up and tell them off

Thanks again everyone! Okay, so we''ve got some good coping methods listed here and some not so good ones(i.e. stuffing our emotions, ignoring the problem, etc). Those of you that provided the not so good also threw in a couple good ones, and I''m sure all of us use the less productive methods from time to time. So what is it about a situation that causes us to exercise, read, meditate, or scrapbook versus stuff, ignore, or drink?

My only thought is that when my emotions have so clouded my rational thought, I am more likely to suppress, stew and ignore. At that point, I can''t think straight to implement a healthy coping mechanism. Anyone else got a thought on this?

I think this very reason is why the distractions (reading, running, watching a movie, etc) work so well for so many of us--they allow us to run away from our stressors for a bit, and then by the time we''re ready to deal with the problem, our heads are clear.

Maybe you just need to tear yourself away from the situation for a bit until you are ready to approach it rationally.

Just know that everyone feels stressed at times, so you''re not alone.
