To fuel my growing dependence on PS for all jewelry decisions, here is another one. I would like to get a wedding band that sits flush with my e-ring. The problem is that our designer needs the e-ring in order to make the wedding band sit flush. Would you make the wedding band now even though the wedding probably isn''t for 2 years? Or would you send the e-ring back at a later time to make the band (lots of hassle since we are sending it from Canada to the US)?

Now, on to my second question. Which option would look better in order for my band to sit flush?
1) Have part of the band gouged out to accommodate the center?
2) Keep the band consistent at 2 mm and have a little v to accommodate the center?

I am leaning towards option 2 because I will be able to wear the wedding band alone or even stack them. It would just have a little v versus being full circle.

I had the wedding band made at the same time as the E-ring, so the rings would match perfectly (both made by the same person, out of the same metal stock, etc). We recently got engaged and don't plan on getting married until sometime in 2010.

I'm okay with the band not sitting perfectly flush, so I can't offer you advice on the second question.

If logistics are harder to send the e-ring back later - getting the rings made together seems a good idea.

Re. flush fit - I think it is not always the best option especially for some vintage-style designs or where you have a large or fancy shape central diamond. There are plenty of celebrities for example who have non-flush rings. here are some examples. The first one is Ashee Judd - she has a diamond band on either side: a lot of my clients go for this look by getting the first diamond band as a wedding ring and the second one as an eternity ring on the birth of a first child or at a significant anniversary (one or two even manage to get 2 bands straightaway)

I would have it made now if you can afford it, to avoid shipping and insurance costs/hassles later down the track sending your ering back. And, do you really want to be without your ering when you have to send it away?

That said, you may change your mind later down the track about your wband? If you are 100% sure about the band, I would say it''s probably easier and cheaper (as far as shipping insurance etc goes) to have it done now.

Keep in mind that you will have to have two rings insured now, you would still want to have your wband insured even though you don''t plan on wearing it for two years, and that premium could add up over time.

Geez, guess I havn''t really helped at all here?
