A diamond will be a once / twice in a lifetime purchase for me. I am actively seeking the perfect engagement ring in Nashville, TN
The ring I''m looking at is made by Jeff Cooper Designs. I was so impressed by the pricetag. I''m looking at a 1.01 carat asscher cut in a 18k white gold setting with channel diamonds. 1.15 carats in all. This detail is hazy but I believe she told me the setting by itself would sell for around 1.5K. It seemed like such an amazing price at 5.7k and then the lady knocks it down to 5 flat, which I am amazed at but also greatful for because 5K is the very top of my range. The quality of the asscher, if I remember correctly, was VSI, F (EGL).
Just when I think I found "the one" I''m hearing terrible things about the retailer.
The ring I found is at Genesis Diamonds. "Official Jewler of the Titans" - like that means anything. From what I''ve read, the owner, Boaz Ramon, was chased out of Charlotte by the diamond industry and he chose Nashville as his new location.

Now I''m reading horror stories in online reviews about rude salespeople (I didnt encounter this) and rings losing the center diamond after two weeks and the employees arguing and beign very rude with the woman about the warranty (she went through her insurance with the help of a lawyer eventually). I''ve heard several negative things from coworkers as well.
Their guarantee policy online is 30 day full money refund, 90 day price match + 10% on any EGL GIA certified diamond at a lower price. They have a great same-price upgrade policy but I will probably not be using that.
So I''m left in a predicament. I really like this ring, and at face value it sounds like a great deal. Considering the EGL rating, would it be? Also, as the ring is made by a designer would that give me more reason to be at ease or more reason to be skeptical?
If I was to purchase the ring, the first thing I would do is take it to an independent appraiser - I have to do this after purchase I believe. I''m worried about the warranty if the appraiser gives me a different story, and that worry stems from a larger worry about the integrity of the seller. Is there a point where you (the informed buyer) would walk away from a beautiful ring because of doubts abouts about the retailer? Have I reached that point?
Thank you so much for any response!!
P.S. This site is a new favorite of mine - very informative. I sincerely appreciate the knowledge and experience you are all willing to share!
