When are you considering delayed packages just missing?

I bought a few non-jewelry (but jewelry related) items earlier this month and two are just MIA. One was sent with no tracking at all but was supposed to have arrived on the 18th per eBay. The other one stopped moving on the 13th per USPS tracking.

I can wait a bit longer. I’m guessing at this point early Jan is my best hope of getting either so I was going to give each a month from the ship date before calling it lost and requesting a replacement or refund. Curious what timelines others are using.

I had a package due the 10th apparently and it didn't come until today. I'm not brave enough to see if the contents molded or not yet lmao. A package from my MIL and one I got myself that was due Monday is also MIA, as well as 1 of the two from my brother to my daughter and they were due the first week of December as well. I'm probably going to give them all til January 1 before complaining.

Sounds like you’re more patient than I am. On one hand I know these are probably small businesses and they don’t have control over USPS but on the other hand I want the stuff I paid for. I might let the one with tracking slide for a little longer than one month.

Not patient in any way lmao. I'm just trying super hard to give extra grace this year with the pandemic going on on top of the usual Christmas rush. My kid will have a present on Christmas day. My husband's came on time and I was already given my ring back in October. So everything else can wait and be given later if need be. At least until Jan 2. Then I am sending allllll the omg whare's my stuff???? emails lol.

Days till considered "missing" is just opinion.

For something more official check with each carrier.
They all have a specific number of days after which an insurance claim can be filed.
IIRC for USPS Registered Mail it's 15 days.

Yet again, this is why I prefer Craigslist, meet in person only with cash.

I meant more along the lines of being an understanding consumer. I was curious what timelines others are using. I want to be kind and understanding but patience is something I clearly lack.

I have a few packages in limbo; I’m just going to let it go and wait until the new year to worry about it. I don’t want to hassle an already overloaded system near the holidays and during a pandemic.

To give some perspective, at the end of Nov. I mailed a package USPS priority mail to a friend. It was due to arrive Dec 3. Tracking said “in transit, delayed, to arrive Dec. 4” and stayed like that all month until it was finally delivered to the recipient this afternoon (Dec. 22).

This is an unprecedented time for mail carriers/systems — fewer resources and many times the delivery load. I’m sure my packages aren’t lost, just waiting their turn in a very long line.

I honestly don't know. I have one package that has been shipped to every city in Florida now for 10 days and hasn't left the state. One package shipped from Texas in which the last update from Texas was 12/15 and one in CA in which the last update was CA on 12/15. I read that there are over 19,000 postal workers out with COVID in the US. Packages are piling up and getting shoved aside to make walkways. Sounds like a situation in which my small packages could get lost very easily. I hope yours arrives soon.

I had something that started shipment November 24th. The next update was December 15th. Now it is stuck saying it should be delivered the 19th STILL. Well it is the 22nd and it is not here. Super aggravated.

I have an ebay item that hasn’t ”moved“ since 2 December.
sigh.

Are you giving any leeway with eBay? I feel like I should cause the buyer protection is amazing but that’s the one with no tracking for me. This year probably sucks for small businesses. I don’t want to be a grinch.

Interestingly the estimated delivery date courtesy of EBay is 2 Feb 2021.
Purchased 22 November from a US seller.
Oh, and shipping was more than the actual item!
I think the parcel has been put on a small raft and I have to wait for the ocean currents / lunar phases to swing it by Sydney Australia.:lol-2:

I'm waiting on something that was shipped before Thanksgiving and it hasn't moved since November 28th. Haven't given up hope yet!!

Usually a month. I purchased a Christmas tree collar on Etsy on Nov 4th and never received it. I waited until Dec 11th to file a claim. The person who I purchased from told me she was still making it and I would get it in another two weeks. But 7 weeks was too long.

I shipped something priority from the US to Canada that hasn’t moved since November 11. I shipped something to China tat took almost 3 months so I don’t Consider it lost yet. Maybe I’m being overly hopeful. I’m waiting for something shipped domestically that hasn’t moved in 3 weeks. I consider it lost.

I have two packages shipped usps that seem to be in limbo somewhere. It's really a crappy situation because we will never know the extent of or what actually happened to the structure and mechanics of the post office and what is covid related. ugh.. not the sellers fault, but does totally suck to pay for things and not know when, or if, they will show up. The pandemic, combined with more online shopping and whatever else went on, seems to really have gummed up the works. Fedex and ups seem much less effected.. although I think the workers are pretty overwhelmed, it still seems pretty much like business as usual.

All these posts of packages missing and being delayed for a month has me doing the anxiety dance. I have no patience at all when it comes to shipping. When you say a package will arrive at a particular date, it arrives on that date. No excuses. Unless there’s a zombie apocalypse or a courier got bit by a vampire and is now scavenging the area for fresh blood. I gave them maybe 4-5 extra days during the holiday season but that was before covid. I know that USPS is having a hell of a time. I went to go mail a package and their drop off box outside had already filled up to the brim twice while I was there. It was complete madness. As for UPS or FedEx, they seem to be doing fine so far so I’ve been using them even if it costs a little more money just for peace of mind.

The package I'm a little concerned about right now has only been out for a couple of weeks so far but it's from another country and I don't have any tracking info., and there might be some confusion over the address, and it's supposed to be delivered to an apartment (which means for all I know it could be sitting in their office with a zillion other packages and I wouldn't know to push for them to look for it before it gets smashed or stolen). Naturally, out of the eight million things I've ordered lately, it's the one I want the most.

It took 12 days for one of my packages to get from California to Tennessee early this month - six months ago it would have taken two or three days.

Here's an example of one package being ping ponged in Florida.

A relative just asked for the tracking number of something I sent them. I mailed it Dec 8 via USPS priority 3 day and it still hasn’t arrived. It was going about 20 hours away by car.
